Hi all! Does anyone have a technique for making banana trees? In 1/35.
This is for my Welcome to the Nam campaign. I have a set of coconut and king coconut trees but nothing else. I plan to scratch most of the foliage and paddies or adapt stuff from aquarium plants and dry arrangements. Anyone have any pointers?
I have no probs with reference material as I live in a tropical country and the trees are everywhere.
Cheers!

A while ago CK Tang (AKA Beachbum) did submit 2 excellent articles about making your own Jungle Foliage. I think you will find most of your answers there.

Very EASY! I have been doing a ton of Pacific WWII work lately, so I've developed a full technique that really looks great! Here is a step by step... think I will turn this into a digital diamond.
1) Lay out aluminum foil, and cut the general shap of the fronds.
2) Cut the tears in the leaves
3) add long strip of wire down the center that will join the other leaves to form the trunk.
4) Wrap in florist green tape.
5) Airbrush to provide the color desired.
Takes about 30 minutes total per tall bananna tree.

You can also take long pipecleaners ( kind used in arts and crafts) wrap that in the florist tape as use for the trunk, for the leaves you can also use green vinyl ( the kind you find in fabric stores) and thin aluminum wires.
