Ola Guys
I first will thank you all for the wonderfull feedback I received in the last 2 threads. For the people who have not followed it I will put the last 2 threads here again
Liberation of Holland part 1
Liberation of Holland Part 2
Ok I still have no definitive name for this project yet but One will come with the time.
The Update of today: Giving the body "body" and a study of Folds
Well guys here you go. I gave the body more weight by adding more putty. It all looks quite rough and not neat but because I also have to add clothes there is not much need to work nice in these stages. I added too much here and there which I will sand of before adding the clothes
Ok here are the pics:
Ok well needless to say that between tweaking the weight a bit here and there I have arrived at a very interesting and very hard level for this figure. Next steps will be adding the clothes to him. Having never really done this, this will be quite a challenge for me. Being a designer I usually have not much problems with drawing them but making folds and such in 3D yourself I still think is quite hard. But we`ll see about that later. Having not much reference about this I thought it was a good idea to make my own reference for this figure. So I made up something I call a Fold Study. Basically what I did was. Letting my sister make pictures of me while hanging in the same position as the guy in the streetlight. My simple idea was that that would give me good references about the folds in his clothing just as I want it to be in 1:35 and it gives me a good base to work from. Ok here are the pics made by my Sister Tessa (Big thanks to that as it is really hard to make pictures of yourself while hanging in a Scaffold) I made the guy in the picture unrecognizable but it is me :-) :-) :-)
Well this was it more or less for this update. There was one thing I did find out when I made these pictures. It is not easy to hang long like this. so the guy I`m sculpting must be really really happy to be liberated as for me it did took 5 minutes and then it was starting to feel quite unpleasant. And besides that all the strange looks of people walking by our house.
As usual I look forward to any form of Feedback. Everything is welcome. and still additions for future sculpting on this fig is welcome. Great ideas are also cool. just shout everything out you have in mind.

Great work so far. I've wanted to attempt sculpting for a while, but figured I'd just get frustrated at my failure. Good on you so far! Now, the fact that you hung on a pole in public, come on, you need help! :-)
Keep us posted.

Ola Faust!
I have to admit you are a courageous person/ modeler!
First, you decide to sculpt figures - a great challenge!
Second, hanging like that - what are your neighbours thinking about you now???
Your sister deserve a good present for Xmas
The figurine is taking shape and I am looking forward to see the clothes taking shape!
Beware of rotation points (harm pit, elbows, knees, neck) amount of putty, since most of the folds will be in that area and it will be easyer to add small amounts as you go than to have a "swollen" area with folds and drapes

:-) :-) :-) That's funny Robert, I love the ingenious way of getting the reference photos...... :-) :-)
One suggestion, for any future reference photos, try lighter colored clothing, it will show up the folds and shadows, and highlights easier, especially in the full body, distance shots.
Now as for the blacked out eyes....... Last time I saw that used was on the cover of one of those cheap tabloid magazines..... :-) :-) :-)

Ola Guys
Thanks for the replies. They are really appreciated.
Now let`s go for some answers.
First of all for the reference pictures about the folds.... It may look kinda lame but. For me it seemed the only way to get accurate pictures for the sculpt. As I said earlier... The best way to get good pics is to get pics of yourself in the same position.
@ John
Thanks for the compliment mate
but I Still don`t think you have seen it all
@ Patrick.
Just give it a try and don`t be afraid to make mistakes. (I have a garbage can full of mistakes on my scultping experiences only) Just start an experiment and see where it ends. Don`t give up at the first try.
@ Rui
Well yes really big credits need to go out to my sister Tessa for making the pics. She really deserves it... She often helps me with pics for my Weird ideas.... As for the Neighbours and any other people who walk accross my hous... this is not the weirdest thing they came accross.. I won`t name any examples but this definately is not the weirdest thing they came accross at Blokkers Residence.
As for the rotation points I have taken care of that by making a couple of good drawings exactly the way I want them to be. Together with the Pictures I took they should be a good reference of how to make those folds.
@ Dave.
You are rtight about the Lighter clothes but in this case I was not really hunting for Colours of highlighting and the like. I was mainly hunting for the folds. Since the clothes will be another color I make the highlights and shadows the way I think they have to be when painting.
As for the Blac ked out eyes.. yes they usuaklly appear in those Cheap Tabloids and it is mainly a joke.. but I thought I would make myself a little bit unrecognizablefor my neighbours :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)
As usual thanks for the replies and always looking further for more feedback.

Morning Robert,......sculpting!,good to see mate, a litte idea...When bulking out the body, try not to flesh it out so much,as when you start to dress the subject, you can tend to give an optical look of being over size,,,one way to approach it, is to do a reasonable anatomical body shape, and then dress the subject by just doing the creases and folds, blend your edges into the body.....just an idea mate..........if you wish to feel free to make contact.......

The casting is coming along well, I know it will come out very nice.
One thing I see and would offer is, when you finally position the figure try to get the ball of his foot to support him more than the middle of the foot as it is now.
Can't wait to see a jacket on him

Ola guys
Thanks again for the replies.
I have to say that what I really like with this threads about this dio is the fact that I actually get feedback. Something which I always really like. And some usuefull stuff rolled out which I happily use.
@ Phil
I see where you are going with your point there and since I will scratch/sculpt more figures I think I`m going to use Different techniques. I would like to get feedback from every Sculptor I can get. I also would like to get as many feedback from you and I would really appreciate that. I would really appreciate it (And you have to like my point of view too of course) if we could do some interactions in the threads I start. So you giving and judging my sculpts in the pics and tell me what needs to change or what I should look out for. This way not only I learn from this but more people can enjoy your knowledge. Again with the idea of getting more people to start making stuff their own.
@ Scott
Thanks for your reply man. And thanks for pointing the foot thing out. Something which I had not really thought about yet. I will keep it in mind and probably will be visible in one of the later updates.
Indeed next step will be the clothes.
Still if anybody has something to say in doesn`t matter which form of feedback. Just shout. It is appreciated

Robert Hello,,,mate i love to see people sculpting their own stuff, having a go leads to more enjoyment and self satisfaction, my way is perhaps not the right way its only the way I approach it,,,Its a must that you take a little from all and develop your own style...But mate like many who have crossed over into the sculpt , it may take over your life...with me its become away of life, and I would feel it an honour to help you if I can......but only if you want....
good stuff Phil...

@ David
Thanks mate for the comments. Well it is those pics where I get my inspiration from. And I hope it will come out exactly the way I have it in mind.
hehehehehe true. I can`t hide the fact that it is me... my clothes give that away :-) :-)
@ Phil
Well even if YOUR way of scultping is not THE way of sculpting you figures are simply stunning. And yes I can get all the help and feedback I need. Basically I should be honoured with the help of you and many others like Ian who are miles ahead of me with sculpting. So shout it out when you see something or when you have tips. More figures need to be sculpted and I can always do with some help.
I think that that is not only a problem with sculpting but also with scratchbuilding. When I started the hobby I used to buy everything I needed. the last 3 years I learned a lot of new things like Making my own Buildings with Styrofoam, Scratchbuilding things with Styrene and Aluminum foil, working with putty etc. etc. Needless to say I don`t buy any houses from AM companies anymore, Conversions and detailing I use to do myself so I buy not much of that stuff Either, Same with Putty and that kind of stuff. I now have a mentality of I only buy what I can`t built myself. And my Modelling became more fun
So yeah Feel free to help I really would appreciate that.

Robert thank you for the undeserved compliment I am only sculpting cause someone else said first have a go then travel the path -(he knows who he is) I am like Phil and yourself where my scratc building and sculpting have taken over figure paintin I just love producing something from me -it sounds Narcistic but please as Phil and I were talking about the other day some have talents some have gifts - Gift s you must share with others talents you use. I try to watch what you are doing but my best way to encourage you is to show how I start and finish a piece- List 'Phil' the roo I am trying to show my mistakes and the things I get right so other may learn and enjoy what Phil an d I love- most importantly you have started - you will start doing everything soon enough -enjoy the learning
REmember Phil and I have walked the same path just a little earlier - and I would not be suprised if one day you don't gallop past me
Look at your photos and put your figure infront of a mirror -it all helps

nice work, I just began sculping too and I've found it very useful to take pics of yourself...helps a lot and no searching the net for photos! I use a tripod and camera timer so I can take them myself.
Keep up the good work
