Well, finally I borrowed camera from my friend, so i can put pics here.
This is my first dio so I am not very talented yet. Dio is halfpast ready, only other side of the road and road itself are under construction. I've been working with this dio about two weeks.

I took a peak at your gallery photo's and your diorama is looking really good , im in the same position as you and about to start my first

I like the rocks behind the figure , how did you make them ?

I edited the post and put the 'old fashioned' image links in place.
The rocks and road are nice. I like the grass/moss on the rocks.

The figure could use a bit of work, the seam lines are very noticable on his hand and leg. The straps on his gear should be black also.

Thanks for editing the pics for me slodder! As I mentioned: the figure is "Quickie" , it took me five minutes to paint, cos i wanted some figure to pose.

An for Ian: the rocks are made of rocks, which I undercoated and then drybrushed many times with different shades of grey. Hill is made of polystyrene, and the stone areas are just plaster, which is polished and after that painted just like those rocks.The groundwork is made of my mum's spices... :-)

What a novel idea making rocks from ...rocks
Dio looks really good. The diagonal composition is a good idea. Paintwork is great and I look forward to seeing the final piece.

I get it - He's not as "finished" as I thought.

Cool then. Keep on working at it.

Don't forget to seal the spices with some dull coat.

Theres nothing like using using the real thing to make it look realistic :-)

Once someone asked me who do you make your rust look so realistic ?
My simple reply was because it is real rust (wire whool left to rust and brushed on with white spirit )

Hi Anssi, I like what you've started here, very realistic looking .
This will be a nice looking dio, looking forward to seeing more.
I might suggest to break up the spices into smaller pieces. Although they have a nice natural colour, the pieces look a little out of scale

I really think this is a good start. Love the rocks and the ground cover. The bush in the right of both pictures looks a bit like a catcus to me, though. Maybe stick some steel wool on it and paint it to make it look more "bushy?"

Great Job on your very first diorama so far. The rocks and the moss/grasses on them look very good, great job weathering and drybrushing them..For a quick paint up, the soldier is also not that bad and i'm sure when you go back and "fix" him ..he will look good as well...The overall all concept is really good and well placed...Keep us posted,.

What is "dull coat"?

Dull coat is a flat clear coat of 'sealer' I purchased "Testors Dull Coat" although any flat clear product will do. What you want the coat to do is seal air out so the natural items don't react and decay as they would in a natural environment.
Some guys use hairspray for this step.

I think that is an outstanding job for a first effort ,the dry brushing is very good and i think you have a nice compact composition for the dio,remember to break up the edge of the road.
Another great thing to look for is the litchen on old logs they make great additions to rocks etc and are very realistic and free..lol
Looking forward to seeing this develop
