Hi!
I'm planning to make a small vignette for my recently built Panther D. The main idea of it is of a German tank assaulting a Russian trench at Kursk 1943.
I searched Google for reference pics of Russian trenches from WW2, but I couldn’t find much...
Can anyone please help me with finding information about this type of trenches used on WW2?

In addition, does anyone have any experience in building trenches of any type?

Cheers!

Ori

My only reference source is the PC game Call of Duty, where you are a Russian in a wide (about 2.5-3m), shallow (about 1m) trench, with loads of tunnels through small hills and several connecting trenches.
I did experiment with making trenches once, using some polystyrene blocks in the shape I wanted with Celluclay on top.

If you search for the "defense of moscow" on google, you will find many photos of the anti-tank ditches built in preparation for the battle, along with multiple personnel trenches meant to allow militia and the Guard to manuever around the city perimeter without being exposed. Many of the trenches were simple dirt walls with wooden reinforcements, but several larger trenches leading to anti-tank guns were shored up with corregated iron (taken from buildings) or concrete, poured insitu. There were also a lot of trenches that extended back to buildings far in the distance so that people could move in and out of a given trench without it;s source being visible or susceptible to open howitzer fire. Pretty remarkable stuff...
