I am building Tamiya's stug IV and can't find any good info on them such as paint schemes commonly used or specific areas the they were deployed. Can anyone steer me to some good resources?

I am not at home to look at my books, but when I think Stug IV, I think of no zimmerit. Right off the top of my head, I know that WSS Panzergrenadier Division Gotz Von Berlichigen (Normandy '44) used them. I would just use a 3 tone camo scheme on it.

Interesting that you think "no zimmerit." Not trying to challenge you (I know VERY little about stug IVs), but I would think that the bulk of early models (not even sure where the demarcation point is) would have it given their construction period (December '43 through some time in '44). I would think any Stug IV in Normandy would have zimmerit. Of course, the late models, at least those built ~9/44+ would not have it. Do you have information pointing to the fact that Stug IVs were less likely to have zimmerit than other vehicles? Just curious, because I have a 1/72 Dragon early Stug IV built and sitting on my workbench, ready for its zimmerit coat this afternoon.

StuG IV Fruhe and Spat most certainly had zimmerit. In fact I don't have a clear pic of one without! Though I am sure there must be a late version pic out there without!
For camo I have pics of 2 tone 3 tone, ambush and Disc/ambush combo on the skirts and 3 tone on the vheicle.
HTH.

I am home now - what can I say - I have "late" on the brain. I have a few pics w/no zimmerit. All of the writing is in Japanese so still no info on units. I know GvB used them though. I'm sure there are others. It would not hurt to do a search in the Axis forum over at Missing Links to see if any more discernable unit info can be found as I do not know of any books to refer to off hand...
