I used drywall compound thinned with water, applied it gently with a razor blade and wiped it off very gently with a sponge. Not perfect but pretty darn good I think. At least I'm pleased.

Here's to the fruits of my labor, thanks for the collective ideas.

Paul, you did a great job tiling and grouting. I should have had you come over to my house when I was laying down tiles in my bathroom :-)
