Hey folks
Need a clarification.
Now the 2d AD, in the time after (maybe) D-Day and before Op. Cobra had on their turret sides a yellow alphanumeric designation, for example B-34. Does this directly correspond with the tanks' company and vehicle number as displayed on the front and rear? Were they used as the 6th AD 'speed' numbers on the hull sides?

According to most of my references, the alpha-numeric markings on the turrets of 2nd and 3rd AD tanks in Normandy did correspond with the vehicle's bumber codes for company and platoon. This is based mostly on Zaloga's writings in two of his older books for Concord. Keep in mind these are a bit older and some of the info has come into question with newer research, but the stuff on turret numbers doesn't appear to be questioned (yet).
