Hi guys Im glueing Tamyias s.a.s. jeep together and I was wondering did the british have their own jerry cans in the nth african campaign or were they american issue. I guess the germans would have donated some as well, I ask this because i have german u.s. and british jerry cans also an early square type british fuel can, thought i might give the jeep a mixture.
another question, did the s.a.s. ever mount mg34's on their vehicles seeing as it was a effective weapon

This site about the LRDG has information about weapons and kit that applies to the SAS as well. All the pictures of SAS jeeps I have seen have been armed with Vickers Ks or Aircraft pattern 0.5 Brownings.

The only pics I have seen of MG 34s on jeeps are the ones the Israeli's used during 1947.

Easy_Co as far as I know, the SAS were pretty good scroungers and "borrowers". It wouldn't be a stretch to include a wide variety of jerrycans.

As for the MG34/42 I have yet to see a photo of one mounted on a SAS jeep although it doesn't mean that they didn't. I reckon ammo being the only 'restriction'. Anyways if your'e not into absolute accuracy and don't mind a little literary licence I have to personally say it looks great on the jeep. I mounted one just behind the passenger with a .50 caliber for the front and a twin vickers for the centre on my Tamiya jeep (sadly deceased after 25 years). It kinda of gives it the "pirate" feel to it, an image somewhat reflecting certain aspects of the SAS.

I would think that the SAS would find some irony using German weapons and ammo to arm their vehicles to destroy German troops

Thanks for the help guys i went on the website Tigercat supplied and they say that the s.a.s. would use german and Italian equipment, I guess it wouldnt have been P.C. during the war to show our lads using enemy equipment thats proberbly the reason for the lack of photo's.I think I will put one on my model, its having the airforce .50 a twin vickers and an assortment of side arms.
