I'm not quite sure how to display my pictures but these 2 Dioramas are the first attempts at modelling since I was about 12 years old. The pavement was made from Balsa wood and polifilla and the winter scene was a copy of the Italeri Command Post. I looked at it and thought I could copy it so used it as a template and made it from paper Lolipop sticks and Balsa wood. I am happy with the results as a first attempt and as a building block to bigger and better things. I am now attempting an urban scene but like most beginners I am unsure whether to put the diorama together then paint it or paint certain items ie the corner of a ruined building and place it into the scene. Also does anyone have the plans for the Tamiya 1/35 PAK 35/36 antitank gun as I bought one from a car boot sale and it contains no instructions.
Any comments will be greatly received.
Regards
Harryblack

Hi,

To display your photos at a topic you only have to copy the URL that shows at the image page on the gallery - you have a button for that - and then paste it on the topic, deleting the space after '.jpg'

I've the kit and I can scan the instructions for you, PM me your e-mail address and I'll send them to you.

Very well done for your first ones! The "poles" are a little too smooth for logs. next time hit them with some coarse grit sandpaper and that will texture them. Good idea using the lollipop sticks, but I'd get fat after a while trying to get enough to do an ack-ack pit!

Very nice dios!
The snow looks very good and the paintjob on the figures is just great.

Thanks for all the positive feedback, it will probably take me another 6 months before I get the next project completed.

I like the snow one, it's nicely done. Couple of things - I would add a bit more snow on the floor and a smidge more on the bags. I'd add a bit of grayish mud to the knees and elbows.
The sendcond dio is a nice one. I would work on dressing up the 'blank' edge of the sidewalk. Nice cobbles.

Impressive scratch work. A lot of it is preference and to some extent the size of the dio. If its a big dio you might want to paint some of the larger pieces before fitting as it gives you an idea of how the color throws off each other. It may also be difficult to paint in some of the buildings if they're packed. But if its a small dio with just a building corner you could probably paint it after its stucked on.

Two really nice dios. A lot of potential is shown and you have the right idea making small dios and learning the techniques before tackling anything bigger.
The points made above are sound. The only thing Id add, is to the shelter. If somebody went to the bother to build it .. it would also probably have personal items and something to lay down in or sit on. A few bedrolls and back packs, water cans, log seats, etc would dress it up nicely.

A good article on building dios can be seen here; A Simple Diorama .
That may give you some ideas and inspiration. If you have any specific questions, just ask!
