With all the talk regarding hypothetical vehicles and movies with inaccuracies and the like, I wonder if it would be a good idea to try to build a movie vehicle. It could be something as easy as “Battle of the Bulge” Patton tanks dressed to look like German panzers or something as elaborate as the Tiger tank based on a T-34 chassis from “Kelly’s Heroes” (although that conversion was done).

Heck, you could even do aircraft, although “Top Gun” released F-5 MiGs and “Rambo” did the UH-1 in North Vietnamese markings.

Does anyone else have an idea for building a “vehicle that never was”? It’s been a while since I saw “Courage Under Fire”, and don’t remember what type of tanks those dressed up M1A1s were.

This would be a fun idea to slam some stuff together and post our results in the gallery.

I just wish I had some extra kits hanging around to do it with. I could do it now, but would cry later after I realized I killed a couple of kits for fun...wait a minuet...this is all fun to begin with...I still can't do it.
Now, if I could get ahold of a few from your collection...I could have some real fun...lol

I've always loved that idea Rob! I wanted to do the vehicles from Red Dawn - as they really looked interesting to me when I first saw it. Heck, I still like 'em!

Again you are a man of ideas!! Sounds great. I was actually thinking of making an Apache and painting it in the Swedish "wisky" camo and putting Swedish markings on it!! That would really pang the hearts of the right-wingers over here!!!

I just wish I was able to tape or locate the little TV blurb about making a Pz IV out of a Sherman. I would easily sacrafice one of my multitudes of unbuilt Shermans and slap an old Tamiya or Academy Mk IV superstructure and turret on it.

Once I get to the point where I feel I can start modifying or scratch building I would like to take a crack at a hypothetical medium tank (I just can't let that modern medium tank thing go). I am thinking of buying a GAU-8 Avenger in 1/32 scale, I saw a detail kit for the A-10 that comes with this gun. From there I would have to find a body and turrent to attach it to. I think using an Abrams body/turrent may be to big, but I would figure something out. I think the small scale difference (1/32 and 1/35) wouldn't be to bad in a situation like this.

I have a lot of other armor and aircraft I want to build before I start creating my own, but I think it would be a fun idea to put that amazing gun on a tank. By the way, this wasn't my original idea. I stole it from Bluefalcon47 in another post. I love the A-10 and the damage that gun can do, it would be interesting to see how effective it would be on the ground. I think it would be cool to put one in an AC-130 gunship also. Just replace the 20mm with the 30mm GAU-8 Avenger. Anyway, thats one of my wild ideas.

I can't remember the name of the movie, but I think it was a sci-fi film. But one of the leads traveled around in a gloss black F86 Sabre, boy it was cool looking. That would be a neat build, I must of killed the brain cell that was carrying the info on that movie. LOL

Sounds like me CARFACE, I want to find a decent 1/35 civilian Hummer to build. I've been debating which military version I want to try to tackle for this conversion.

I do have an MRC Infinity Q45, but it is in 1/24, don't ask me why I have this kit.

I had started on a '67 Corvette coupe that I am making into an "Urban assault" vette. I have missile launchers coming out of the paasenger side window and used an old King Tiger barrel coming out of the winshield. I got the idea from an old playstation game called "Vigilante 8"....maybe someday I will get it completed. Going to put a mortar on the back bumper as well

How a "Saving Private Ryan" T-34 converted to a Tiger? LOL

I'm trying to do an M4A3E8 sherman with an M26 pershing turret If I can find and M26 I'll do it Also anM18 hellcat TD with the turret of an M36 Td There were some of those td's made but never entered production Also a sherman firefly w/U.S. markings There is debate on wether or not they did exist

This is most likely due to the fact that some did carry the circled star on the roof and others may have retained or added circles in order to aid in recognition.

Rob there is a sherman group over in yahoo groups that someone sent an article in about the firefly conversion Supposedly 180 were converted for the 1st and 9th armies I believe But no photos exist as far as anybody knows I'll post the url site later It's not really a site for modelers,more for the real thing

Ahh, American Fireflies! I have a little info on this. I'll have more if my copy of Mark Hayward's book ever arrives from England. Anyhoo, here's the scoop: A hundred Fireflies were ordered converted for 1st army in late February 1945. Work began in early March and 80 were completed and sent to the continent beginning mid-April. None is known to have been issued to a combat unit. These were M4A3s, a mix of dry- and wet-stowage types, and some apparently had HVSS suspensions. They had the usual low-bustle turret. So, they did exist--briefly. Would make for a pretty model, though....

Hobbycraft sells a HA1112 buchon ( a spanish built, merlin powerd bf109) painted in the colors of those used in the movie "the battle of britain" !
Also, I know there's an aftermarket company selling decals for the planes appearing in "tintin" cartoons (bf109b, dragonfly...)
