Heya, Folks,
I'm building the Academy Marine M4A2 with the deep wading trunks...
I've seen many pictures of the trunks from afar, but never a close up. So, does anyone know if the trunk's openings were screened off? I would think so, given no one would want a Japanese grenade shoved into the trunks!!
Thanks, folks!
Much Aloha and Muy Mahalo,

Flipped through the Hunnicutt bok for you. I didn't see any screens. However I would guess that from the factory they would have the screens. Over time these screens probably got lost or just became an encumberance to maintainence crews who conveniently misplaced them.

Hey Havoc
Did you mean screens in the way of additional protective screens against Jap. infantry? If so I'm not sure there would have been these in place as you would imagine they'd remove the wading trunks completely if they proved to be this hazard... Don't know though this is just an opinion
And in Slugs' pic it looks as though they removed the top section which exposed the grill inside the trunk which would work as protection...?

Thanks a bunch for the help and insight, guys!!!
Ya know, I'm probably going to add the screens inside the wading trunks, if only for a wee bit of "visual excitement" even if I am incorrect. Truth be told, once they get the wash treatment, they will barey be visible anyway!
And yep, it certainly does make sense that the trunks would be removed if infantry posed a threat, but as I said, going for a bit of artistic license here!
Thanks again, amigos!
