Can someone please answer this question for me. On the Panzer IV H/J, if the turret has it's turret skirts on would you need to have zimmerit on the turret itself in stead of just the turret skirts?

Wolf-Leader,
When the zimmerit was applied to the H and early J models, the turret face and gun mantlet were most always covered. The turret skirts actually, did not get the zimmerit in all cases, so, you'll need a more specific tank to model to make that decision.

Hi Wolf.

So you have finally moved on to the exterior, excellent.
As to your question, the turret would most likely have zimmerit applied as the skirts were usually applied after final production. Also, I have seen a number of photos that show Panzer IV's with zimmerit and skirts.
Hope this helps,
Andrew

I agree with Tankshack,

From the pix I've seen PzKpfw IV's with turret skirting, only had the front plate and gun mantlet coated in zimmerit.

The turret skirt itself was seldomley coated with zimmerit, although I have a pic with the side plates on a PzKpfw IV coated with zimmerit.

Study as many pix as you can.

Do you have much reference material???

This is a great site for pictures.

All the best
