I usually do it with an x-acto blade!!
Seriously, I use oils, Winsor and Newton, and usually use vermillion or a very wet black on dark uniforms. Good luck, remember the best depiction of blood is VERY subdued, don't make it look like a slaughterhouse.

I agree, blood is best used in small amounts, especially in 1/35th scale.

LOL... That's a good one Coop.. :-)
Be carefull when doing blood in dios. It is very easy to overdo it, and if you don't control yourself you'll soon get the impression of Texas Chainsaw Massacre.. I have to say: "less is more"..
You should also note that blood on the clothes isn't red but transparent. So give your unlucky soldiers a darkened, wet look around the wound and remember: "less is more".. :-)

I use Alizarin Crimson oil minimalythinned from the tube when I have to use blood. Pretty close to my own each time I check my sugar levels. Remeber, if it's old blood, the color fades to a reddish brown pretty quickly. The garish red blood of the 70's movies is probably pretty inaccurate. Arterial blood is "redder" being more oxygenated. Venous blood is closer to the color of liver in the meat department of the grocery/butcher shop.

Keep blood to a bare minimum.... as for the color, I use a base red enamel, and add in a darker black or brown. Blood should not appear "fire engine red"... and if it is "old blood", like a war victim laying in a puddle, be sure to use brown as the base color, and add red to that... not the opposite!

I would think that a brown red around the area with a little gloss added in to show wetness would work. But more than blood to show an injury would be to have some rips in the clothing or bandages or both. It wouldnt be so effective to just to paint red on top of a great coat. Another thing is to have some slightly washed onto the hands. Everybodys first reaction is to grab or hold the area wounded. Just my thoughts on the matter

Very nice effect is to paint a soldiers face normally, then add some black and dark reddish brown watercolour over face. Let dry and wash with a sharp, almost dry brush. You´ll create a messy face with some dirt on, some washed away by sweat or water...
The image is bad quality but gives an idea. The guy also has dried blood in his ears, caused by a close artillery shell hit...
