Hi, i am 14 and from Birmingham.
I have just bought alot of new paints, one of which was rust from the Humbrol series. It is just like an orange colour, i thought it would seem more metalic, do i need to mix it with some other colours to get the right effect. Thanks

Hi Sam,
I guess the colors I use depend on the item I'm painting. Tracks for instance....I use Vallejo flat earth which is a medium brown color, then wash with dark brown oils, then highlight with silver on contact points. If I'm painting say a muffler, I'll skip the silver, but add just a hint of drybrushing with a "rust" color paint. I find the bright orange "rust" paints to be too bright for my tastes.
It also might work to use that rust color paint and then wash with dark brown to tone down the orange look.
To specifically answer your question though, I never paint rusted areas with just one color. Often I'll use at least three layers, finishing with pastels/ weathering chalks at the very last step.
Good luck
