Eric, you can get any of the 251 kits from Dragon, they're all good. Have a look at Luckymodel since they have some of the Dragon 251 kits on special offer at the moment. The Initial or late tiger kits from Dragon are fantastic kits, and cost a bit more than the 251 kits, but you do get a hell of a lot of extras in the box such as aluminium barrels, brass ammo, etc. Your best bet is to have a look at sites such as Lucky Model and take a look what is in each box. When you've decided and purchased, come back here and read one of the build articles such as...

Depends on what you want..
The 251 allows for 3 options as does the Tiger.
With the 251 you have to paint and detail the interior, but with the tiger, except for the hatch interiors, you do not.
Both kits have individual link tracks, and both have magic track which are supposed to just snap together.
The 251 hull sides are seperate pieces and some people have had trouble getting everything alligned correctly. With the tiger that is not a problem, but someone here on Armorama got a tiger with a badly warped hull.
The 251 can be built into a realistic (read as really existed) model out of the box in each of the three options, but the Tiger will require the addition of the zimmerit anti-magnetic mine paste to model a vehicle actually in service.
Since no aftermarket company has a set didicated to this release of the kit yet, you will either have to make your own or adapt the set for the Tamiya Late tiger or generic sheet.
That's not to say you can't just build the bits in the box for fun, but as far as I understand at this point, no late tigers existed without zimmerit.
Make it easy on yourself, buy and build both!

Eric, they're all great kits. Like MLD said, the hull on the 251's is a little fiddly to put together, but dry fitting before final assembly will help you to avoid problems. And Vinnies build articles are excellent references no matter which one you get.

the DML 251 ausf D Pionierpanzerwagen 3 in 1 is the first model I chose when I decided to get back into modelling after seeing the kit in Vinnie's article. Those articles are a really good reference to keep going back to.
When I took delivery of my DML box, I was amazed. After being used to Games Workshop stuff, the DML quality is through the roof. It's a lovely kit with lots of extras and options and it makes a great model, with plenty of details to pull the viewers eyes in. Dragon did a great job with the stuff they put in for you to work with, and also with the instructions which were great too. I'd recommend you do a 251 before a tiger.
Sadly, I royally botched the operation when I damaged the SpZb by accident, so I made it into a 251/1 and stashed the pionier extras for another day!! clever boy that I am.
But hey, take it from me, the 251 can lead to bigger things - I ordered the Tiger late 2 weeks ago !!!

Hi Eric,
I ntoiced your Q just now but hopefully this will help.
If you are looking for best 251D by DMl get the latest 3 in 1 version:
http://www.perthmilitarymodelling.com/reviews/vehicles/dragon/dr6223.htm
It has all the newest whistles and bells added! Also a corrected floor.
About Tiger I, depends if you want to do zimmerit or not. Both are just excellent Tiger I's. Late will of course need zimmerit.
