karl,
Not sure what to say. I'm confused. Is that the finished whitewash or as Hilbert said, just a pre-shade?
If it's a finished job, I think it's too uniform in appearance. Perhaps taking some diluted white paint and brushing over the model, would help.

I like what you are doing but I agree that it is a bit too uniform in places. I also don't care for the almost perfect circle around the national insignia. There are some awesome examples of whitewash applications on this site as well as on Missing Links. Practice will make perfect I am sure.

Very nice, but maybe a tad to uniform on the edges, as mentioned, just touch that up a little and I think it would be perfect, what did you use for the wash?

Hi Karl, you have an excellent start there, I really like the 'filthy' look of the white areas. However the previous comments regarding uniformity and the ( too) neat circle around the cross are right, but easily solved. Just mist over the dark corner areas with white to tie them in with the main panels, but only just enough to very lightly cover the grey.

I like the whitewash. I would like to see it again when the wheel and tracks are on.

Another nice technique for this finish is to add downward streaks from the top of the side panels. Use the base color, and in a dry brushing manner, add streaks from the top edge of the panel downwards. Go very lightly on your brush, as you need to add this effect bit by bit to built it up.

Hey Karl, white wash looks good, but how do you get the affect where dust enters the cracks?
