Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone had some ideas on how to make the orange light lens and mounts found on top of NATO AFVs etc. Failing that, is there a product ready to be purchased anywhere?
Cheers,
John

Easiest is an orange LED from Radio Shack or an electronics supply store. Or you could raid the old electric games and toys from the kids for them too. Cut off the metal leads and mount it on a piece of rod/tubing cut to about 1/8 inch for the base. You could also round off the end of a piece of clear sprue and paint it with clear amber paint, mixed with some clear red to get that orange color. Cut to length and mount on tubing again for the base.

Verlinden did a set of lights in resin, but you'd have to try to paint the glass portion to look like orange glass. You could also heat form the clear portion from some scrap blister pack and paint it orange.

You mean like these?
They're probably a little large for what you're talking about, but they the perfect size for the ones used by 1ID on their vehicles. Much larger than the metal one that came with my Accurate Armour AS-90.
If you want them, they're yours. If not, try making them from small round stock. The clear orange look can be easily achieved by first painting the part bright silver, then with Tamiya clear orange.

I think there was one of these in the Tamiya "ACAV" kit in plastic. Maybe there was one in the Tamiya M60A3 kit as well, not sure.

I've used clear acrylic rod or bits of clear sprue coated with Tamiya clear orange paint to create 1:35 bubble lights.. You can file, sand and polish the rod to the desired shape and then drill out the inside to replicate the rotating light bulb/reflector. Then paint it with a few coats of Tamiya clear orange and seal it up with gloss varnish or future.
