hi Guys n Gals,
Today I'm wondering what the general rule if for the colour of the interior of vehicles such as the Marder III or Elefant? In particular I'm working on a winter scheme Marder III but haven't been too successful in finding good reference to tell me if the hurried winter scemes painted on in the field extended to the interior walls of these AFVs.
Any help would be great apreciated,
Happy modeling

I wouldn't say never, but almost never.
There are cases of vehicles that straddle the change to Dark Yellow appearing with Panzer grey interiors & Dark Yellow exteriors, especially Sdkfz 251, 250, Marder etc. (see photos in Panzer Colours for instance).
There were several reasons not to paint interiors with winter white; one, difficulty due to the intracacies of combat vehicles like the Marders, & the difficulty getting it off again. Secondly, there was never enough paint to go round, many vehicles only had the front forward facing parts painted, let alone the interior. Thirdly many vehicles show very "rushed" paint jobs, so time was obviously at a premium.
Finally I'm unclear about your ref to an Elephant, I would class this as a closed vehicle surely?

Hi Steve,
Thanks alot for your reply... that helps me alot. And your right, I was mistaken in mentioning the Elefant. I was inteding more marder, panzerjager and mobelwagen turrets.
Thanks again

I would say that it would be a matter of taste, as both painted and unpainted interior would probably exist, but as mentioned above, the instruments would most likely not be whitewashed.
Maybe these photographs from my collection can be of some help.
