Now thàt is not covered in the invitation. But as I work at the airport, I'm sure I can arrange something with the landing rights if you fly your own aircraft. :-)

Jan, I was just messin' with ya. We've got a pretty big MAC terminal here at the base that does a lot of international flights. I wonder if you could get flight to Brussels? lol

All right General Failure, I'll be there. But I might need someone to take me home.

Oh Brian, I wouldn't want to put you out of your way. How close is Sweden to northeastern Ohio?

Bryan,
We DO get quite a few US Navy aircraft in BRU. Mostly government missions for NATO etc... Maybe some came from your ways ? Next time you hitch a ride, let me know ! :-)

Yes....congrats to Major Västerhaninge!

And speaking of gold...Ken, why do you think a Lt. Colonel gets silver? That would be an insignia downgrade.

Or is it platinum?

My wife is none too happy about all this.
Last night I decorated the house, got half a pig on the BBQ and two barrels of Belgian beer... and nobody came over to visit the 300 th visitor. Maybe I should have organized better travel arrangements, but this 300'th visitor came unexpected to me, too.
In the end we had to eat and drink it allwith the neighbours (who are 93 yrs old...).
My headache's not as bad anymore as it was this morning, thank you !

and two barrels of Belgian beer...

Therein lies the problem. Had it been kegs of German beer straight from Munich, we would have been there in an instant!

Jim, here is the answer: http://www-perscom.army.mil/tagd/tioh/ROTC%20Misc%20NGB%20page/Silver%20and%20Gold%20Insignia.htm it's based on the fact that Infantry used gold insignia on a silver epaulette and all others used silver on a gold epaulette. When the color was standardized, more officers has silver insignia than gold so silver was kept as the color.

Maybe next time the celebration should be organized by videoconferencing (is that a word???) with webcams, instead of physically having to fly halfway around the world...
