Does anyone have any good tips for applying waterslide decals over zimmerit on models? I've tried pressing them into the texture with a Q-TIp but nothing seems to look quite right. Help!

Hellbent:
When working with really irregular surfaces like zimmerit, it is necessary to use a product such as
MICRO-SOL
which softens the decal and helps it conform to irregular shapes. After you apply it and gently press the decals down, you want to leave it alone until it is completely dry. Otherwise, the decal which is in a softened, fragile state, can get ruined.
Hope this helps!

And yet another thing you can try, use a hair dryer. It will soften them up as well...just be careful as you have to use some heat and it can warp the kit parts. A trick learned from building decal heavy Rally cars. I still put some Micro-sol on them, but if the decal has to conform to a "difficult" area, I grab the hairdryer. A few passes with it, then us a q-tip to press it down...repeat if needed.

When I built Italeri´s bergetiger, I bought the microsol and microset to try decals on the zimmerit. I was very impressed with the results, and have used this system since. Some images below of the results ..

Wow Frank. If you hadn't told me those were decals, I wold have sworn you painted the insignia on. I bought a bottle of Micro set many many years ago and still occasionally use it Never used the Sol . Think I'll go pick up a bottle now.
