hi guys
I have started work on the damaged buildings I posted a sketch of the other day, beginning with a card mock-up for checking scale and finalising details.
After making the front piece, I need to check with you fellas as to whether you think the scale looks ok ??
I am in two minds as to the height - but bear in mind the top of the "spire" is level with the highest point of the roof all round, with the guttering coming in around the canopy area over the balcony (it's the row of 6mm wide squares if you can make that out).
Anyway, what do you think -
oh and yes, that's the Wermacht's attempt at explaining the theory of Evolution :-)

Wow -that's a big building. It looks huge, but accurate.
You know, in dioramas you can get away with shrinking the size of the floors as you move up. If the base floor is 10 scale feet, 1st floor can be 9, 2nd 8 and so on. A viewers eyes will naturally compensate and they will never realize the size difference. It's kinda like the optical illution when you look at a sideways V with people in them and they ask which is smaller.... Hard to explain with out the actual prop.
Love the theory of evolution too by the way :-)

Hello bigjon
in my opinion the door is too low, she would have to arrive until the inferior part of the balcony.as minimum the door and the superior window should have the same height. I also believe that there is too much space between the superior part of the window and the base of the frontispiece.except for these small details I believe that these making a good work :-)

I actually shaved 5mm off the bottom of the door as it appeared too high to me, but in hindsight I could get away with that.
This is why I made the card mockup. I think it in total needs bringing down about an inch (25mm) mostly from the top half, with a more "compact" set of features on the front.
It looks quite empty on the top also as I have not added any details up top. There is a sign to go up there and also a crest feature.

Very nice! like your theory of evolution as well...clever :-)
Slodder brought up a good point, one that I will use in the future if I ever do a large building. So thanks for that, is this the only building for the diorama or are you doing a small street section?
awsome

the base will have the corner of a street row extending from two rear corners to the middle, with a KO'd Sherman and some panzergrenadiers in the foreground. Behind the facade, I intend to practise my interior detailing skills.
I have got the help of an incredible modeller also, for which I am very grateful, in the form of input from Nato, whose gallery needs viewing by everyone as an inspiration, I've never seen details like those!! I just need to switch my mind in modellin mode
I've just had to get my head round the local panic-buying idiots causing a fuel shortage in my local area

Hey Jon
Not sure if I read it in the replies here, but are you going to have a step or two up to the doors from street level?
Brad
Oh, and in the wrecked tank are you going to have the Australian cricket team members? Maybe extend the dio to include a derailed train... :-)

hehe honeycut, I was going include some australian troops picking through some burnt out wooden ruins - but i thought to myself "hmm, that just wouldn't be accurate. After all, the australians would be getting near the ashes" :-)
there will probably be some steps yes. It's all so up in the air and work are asking me for some of the most superhuman feats of effort I've ever known....so it's stuck in concept stages at the moment !!!
