Hi guys,

I'm planning to return to modelling after a break of about 20 years. Boy, has the hobby progressed since then! When I look at all the stuff that's available now... - you don't know how good you have it.

Anyhow, I'm gonna start with the Dragon Tiger I late production (kit 6253). But once again I run into that nasty stumbling block - zimmerit!

So, my question is, do you know of any company that produces 'ready-made zimmerit' for this model - or if it's only available for say, Tamiya's model, how difficult is it to modify it to fit the Dragon model?

Cheers in advance,

Soren,
A Zimmerit isn't available yet for the Dragon Tiger, but, there is always a but, Cavalier just released a Zimmerit set for the AFV Tiger and a good review on it is over at Perth Military Modeling Site. So I am assuming, a set will soon be released for the Dragon kit.

I have the kit too and that is what I am waiting for.

Hi Soren,
welcome back to wonderful world of tank modelling:) When it comes to zimmerit, you can wait for Atak. I have used two of their sets and they work almost perfectly. Mainly thinng of resin plates is needed.

Hello Soren,

As far as I know, still no ready made zimmerit for Dragon Late Tiger I.

Wouldn’t take long for Atak or Cavalier to come out with a set for this kit (photoetch zimmerit not my cup of tea).

If you are unable to wait, you can purchase a set for Tamiya or AFV tiger and carry out some small modification. Even if you purchase a set specially designed for a particular kit, you may need to perform minor modification to ensure perfect fit e.g. Cavalier set for Italeri’s Panther Ausf A Late).

This modification is not difficult, using Tamiya 2 parts epoxy putty (my choice of putty) and the resin set for sample you can add any shortfall (or simply leave it off to simulate chip off – up to your imagination). Any excess area can be trimmed off (the beauty of resin zimmerit, unlike photoetch zimmerit).

Myself, I’ll wait for a set from either Atak, albeit more expensive, or Cavalier.

HAPPY MODELLING

I understan, from a post on another site, that ATAK is already working on the set as we speak..Jim
