Howdy! I posted some in progress stuff in Rivet Review and figured I would put some finished shots in here. After being in Iraq for a while I wanted to build something that represented the wide variety and diversity of the Humvees over here and the personal modifications crews make to thier vehicles. I also tried to capture the wear and tear we put on our trusty steads every day. I started with the Dragon M1025 kit and added a little of this and a little of that. Did some scratch stuff with index cards and Post-It notes. Finished it with Tamiya and Testors colors and then weathered the hell outta it. It was a lot of fun to build but I think it might be a while till I try a 1/72 scale Humvee again, lol.

I LIKE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HOOAH!

What modifications did you add exactly. I can see most of them, but an explination would be awesome. I have 3 of these nice kits sitting in the closet waiting to be built. I'm probably gonna make a small dio with them.
I just ordered the photo etch set for the Revell 1/72 Hummer and I figured the sets for the Dragon kits are not far behind.

Is it possible to tkae some closeups of the MWO you added?

While I am a 1/35 Humvee guy, that doesn't mean I can't like the little guys! This is very interesting and very well done. I like the "amalgamated" look (for lack of a better description) of different parts combined. Very cool, and I like the background setting, nice touch.

Thanks all for the kind words. And a shot to Mr. Lewis, Thanks and your website is awesome. I have definitely have learned a thing or three from reading about your builds. I didn't see the Eduards set for Revell's Humvees till recently. I kinda wish I had. The rear hatch looks better but such is life, lol. I do have the Revell kit but I think I'm gonna do them up like some of these "Rat Patrol" trucks used around here inside the wire. If anyone is interested, I can post pics of some of the wilder versions around here. The only limit to the number of different configurations is your imagination, me thinks. The only changes I made to the Dragon kit was obviously cutting the hatch open and the part for the winch didn't quite fit with the brushguard I used, so it had to be cut and shoehorned a bit. I also filed down the coil springs to show the effect of the extra weight from the armor. The bow of the front tires is actually kinda mild compared to some.

A few of the things I added (aside from all the junk we pack rat around with us, lol) are the mandatory ice chest from Czech masters, the plywood between the seats and the gunners platform. The BlueFor tracker for the TC was made from a scaled down map and index card.

I made the Red Dot AC unit from the photo-echted brushguard and some ventilation fans for a model railroad car. The convoy sign was done from a picture of a actual sign, scaled down and printed on photo paper. The Fuel Can and Spare rack was made from Index card and Post-It note, as was the side and rear armor on the turret. The writing on the turret is decals included in the Dragon kit. Last but not least, everything over here has some type of towing device and mine is painted Post-It. Thanks again for your comments and Happy Modelling!

Thanks for the compliments on my website Abbie - it's been awhile since I've been able to update it - but - I've got a lot to get up there soon!

Please post all the HMMWV pics you can - like Jeff above in his post - I'm a big fan of the HMMWV. I'm building one to go with my M1A2 Abrams SEP conversion...

Nice work. I like all the clutter inside.
I'm working on the Revell ATF Dingo, but OOB, so it won't be nearly as interesting as your model. I have several 72nd Hummers I need to get to.
Great work, and we can use all the pics you can post.

Abbie

I have a few Dragon Humvees in production (mostly waiting on some crew figures) and I'm certainly going to borrow heavily from your model - well done indeed!

The ice chest (or Eski as we say) is an essential feature and I was wondering how to create them in miniature. Perhaps some scrap plastic, painted convincingly and obscured by other kit will do the trick.

I have noticed cylindrical drink coolers (?) in quite a few photographs and they shouldn't be hard to make with scrap sprue.

One thing that confuses me about the Dragon Humvees is seats. The front seats, according to the instructions, seem far too small. Should the seats be swapped around or am I completely off the mark here?

I recently bought the second Concord Humvee book and its got enough variants to keep both Revell and Dragon Humvee kits in production for years!

Regards

David

I stumbled upon the cooler in the Czech Masters Modern US Equipment set but making one that small would be easy (and cheaper, although the set comes with five). The seats are basically correct. Humvee seats are small anyways, ya know. There should be partitions right behind the front seats that are not included in the kit. Instead of modeling this, I just hung some bags on the rear of the seats for extra ammo or whatevers. Not sure if your asking about the metal drink jugs or the civilian style yellow water coolers but yeah they would be easy to make and are prominent on Five Tons and above. I recently submitted a bunch of pics of vehicle around here and hopefully they will be posted soon. We are always traveling so future submissions are a fer'sures thing. Thanks for the kind words and see ya'all on the flip-flop.
