Hello,

I know that Australia has been using LAV vehicles for some years.
What version are they using ?
Could it be depicted with the new trumpeter kit ?

Yes, they are the same base vehicle, with added/changed parts for the Aussie version. I believe Maple Leaf models makes a couple conversion sets to make them into AusLAVs.

Looking at the listings on the site they do conversion kits for the Canadian LAV not necessarily the Australian version. I do not know if a conversion kit is availiable for the Aussie one.

HI

IIRC, the 1st 25 (or so) Aussie LAVs were basically USMC LAV-25. The production batch varied somewhat from the base LAV-25, larger tires etc.

Some of the items, noticeably the tires are avail from MLM but you are pretty well on your own for the rest of the mods.

G'day Anthony,
The ASLAV is now up to Phase III.
If you are interested in doing a ASLAV 25 be prepared for a lot of smal scratch building. There are around 80 odd parts to be added if you dont include the tie downs (and not to forget the Cage Armour). The photo below is of one of the ASLAV's attached to SECDET VI this year in Baghdad.
The only place I know of a conversion kit is from Defence Models and Graphics in Sydney.

Now this resin conversion is not all that great, but it is a good start. Some of the finer details will need to be scratch built, but again it will get you started.
Kits needed would inculde the Trumpeter LAV, Aber tie down cleats, Maple Leaf Tires (Hobby Fan would also do, but the ML one's are the go), Eduard photo etch and a barrel from either the latest Tamyia Bradley kit or one from Armour Bits. And the last thing you will need is a lot of referance. Photo's of the Lav's can be hard to come by, but if you get a hold of 4 or so copy's of Australian Defender Magazine, you will have just about enough photos. Exept for the finer details.
If there is anything else I can help you or anyone else out there plese let me know.

Cheers Jason

PS Jason B if you are reading this keep an eye on your snail mail box. I have lost your email address sorry.

thanks guys fir all these fast and detailed answers !

OK, modifying the trumpeter into the ASLAV will be a step too far for me !
But maybe I'll try to reproduce one of the first LAV-25 received by australia...

Mate the thing to remember is they would not have remained unmodified for long if at all. We Aussies have a knack of changing things to suit ourselves as far as equipment goes.
