Hi All'
Just wondering if anyone could supply me with the dimensions of the big stowage racks everyone seemed to fixi to their M113's during OIF (Did they even bothered measuring them, or just build from what was available?)
I know AEF have a conversion for an engineer vehicle but I think I'd like to try scratching one before I shell out money for AM stuff.
Cheers
Tom

I don't have the dimensions, but I know a few others who probably will chime in shortly with the answers. As for whether anyone bothered to measure them, yes. (In real life) If I recall correctly you will find most of them on factory-supplied kits applied to 3ID tracks (Bradleys and M113s). Because during an invasion a unit has to carry everything and the kitchen sink with them, after the invasion phase of OIF was over and units set about on patrols, the bins were taken off as most of the items stowed in there were left at the base camp where the unit is based.

My - still - in-progress M2A2 ODS shows this stowage bins. It came from Verlinden's stowage set (the kits for the Bradley and the one for the M113 are almost identical, save from some vehicle specific parts. The set is good and recommended, but the PE bin was a pain to bend into shape without a bending tool; and unfortunately, only one bin is provided while actual vehicles had two)

Hi Tom
Here are 2 pics that may help you to "guestimate" the dimensions of OIF M113 racks....

D'OH !!! I had forgotten that I have the M113 racks set from AEF (too much dust on the shelf )here are the dimensions :
10.4 cm long
1.0 cm wide
1.5 cm high
But to say the truth, scratchbuilding them would be the way to go as AEF racks are quite poor...

Here is a good shot of the depth of the stowage racks. As you can see the crew have stuffed anything and everything into the racks. I have an extensive photo collection of M113'S and this is my fav.

Cheers and good luck.

Dan,
On your pic is there a modification to the exhaust pipes on the M113s? The cream coloured...Looks like a big concrete slab on top of a shaller concrete slab seems to be where the exhaust is.

In the picture I can still see the A2 exhaust guard and the rain 'flapper' cover next to the concertina wire that is laying on the intake/outtake grills.

No idea what the grey block is though.

Looks like a storage box of some type to me. The exhaust is still there, as Paul pointed out, in front of the cream-colored box.
