Hey HeavyArty, you still active duty? If so, where and in what position? S-3?

Mike,
Yup, still on Active Duty. Currently at NTC as an OC. I'm trying to get back to the force as Bn S3, hopefully soon. I'm going on 3 years at NTC now. Time to move on.

Not sure where I will end up next. Trying to get to 4ID, maybe back to 3ID, or possibly to Naval Command and Staff College. It is still pretty much up in the air, in a holding pattern here.

I am pretty confident 1CAV will be here in the spring. We are planning on it here. Have heard the rumors as well, but your new CG, MG Fil, was the former post commander and senior trainer of NTC. Pretty sure he will bring you all out here.

When this sort of thing happens, do the crew get assigned to a new tank or what? Does the army have to take in a load of spare unassigned vehicles?

borrow tanks from other platoons not going out at the same time, we had 4 tanks in a company versus 14 usually and a truck (up armor m1114 hummv) per crew, usually took out 2 trucks and a tank.....armys idea of being more hooahhooah...and thanks gino for the input.....appreciate it

How often does an existing NCO attempt to convert into an officer? I have seen this occured in my division before but am not sure if this is possible in the US army.

Happens pretty often. That is what OCS is mainly for. One of my fellow Battery Commanders in OIF did that. He was an E-6, Staff Sergeant, in the Ranger Battalion (infantry) and decided he wanted to be an officer. Went to OCS and was branched Field Artillery. He later went back to the Rangers as a Fire Support Officer, then came to my Bn in 3ID and commanded an MLRS Battery. Great guy.
