Hi All.

Almost finished a chally 2 which i have been working on for over a year, its been an interesting time because its the first time ive ever used an airbrush (talk about trial and error) .
Im in no mans land now as im about to apply the decals and start weathering (im doing it in KFOR service) and have been advised to give it a couple of coats of Johnsons Klear (Future for you yanks out there)
Can somebody advise me on how to use it, do i brush it, spray it, water it down, add spirits to it or what .
Coincidentally does anybody know where i can get a set of trumpeters instructions for this kit as they are long gone and decall application is gonna be pure guesswork at the moment.

Thanks Guys.

Spray it straight from the bottle - just take it slow an easy as it builds up fast!

Well you can spray it or brush it.
I have done both without thinning and it works like a charm.
Just make sure your paintjob has cured completely before applying.
And once you apply, leave 24 hours before decalling.
Then seal the decals (or whole tank) with another coat.
Then flat coat.
After that you can hit it with washes etc and your beautiful paint job is protected underneath.

Or.........alternatively, use a clear acrylic such as Tamiya X-22. I've put decals down on this straight away and never had problems.

Got a couple questions on this one.

1) Do you thin the X-22 before applying it?
2) Did you use an airbrush or paint brush to apply?
3) If airbrush, im assuming the usual turps will clean it off the airbrush as per normal acrylics?

Arrgg! Turps? For acrylics? Yep I thin it with Tamiyas own thinner these days. About 30% thinner, but I believe you can use Isoproyl alcohol also. Airbrush, and for clean up it's the same with all acrylics, I just use water. Spray through until clear, about 20 seconds.

Thanks for that Vinnie.

Yeah Turps works like a charm especially when clearning it from my airbrush. I tried both thinner and turps only to realise that Turps cleaned it off nicer than the thinner i use.

I use Isoproyl alcohol as a thinner at a ratio of 2 parts varnish or paint to one part thinner.

I too wonder at what Turps does to acrylic paint in the long run.

I've used Vallejo Satin varnish to great effect. Thin with Tamiya Acrylic Thinner (for the Model color version. For the Vallejo Air version of the varnish I use thier Air Brush Thinner as it does not seem to like Tamya) and spay on two or three light coats. I've found it a very good base for the decals and weathering.

I must agree.

I find both The flat and gloss varnish by Vallejo to be the most reliable when applying decals. I sometimes dip the decals in gloss varmish aswell when applying them just to make sure.

The Flat will kill any gloss areas excellently.

Cheers
