Karl, I think you mean the Sd.Kfz 181 Panzerkampfwagen VI (P) from Dragon kit # 6210?

There is also the VK 36.01 and VK 30.01 The 36.01 can be made from two new connections kits, the 30.01 from the Trumpeter Ermil - with a bit of effort. The 45.01(H) can be made from the Dragon Initial kit with a vorpanzer plate added - just cannot remember who made it.

Karl that is the VK45.01(H) It can be made from the dragon kit, but you need to add the Vorpanzerplate. I think its available from cromwell, but Im not 100% sure. It is not included in the Dragon Kit. If you have the Modelers Guide to the Tiger Tank from MMiR. There is one in there.

You can use the Dragon Initial type but don't add any tools, clear off the cleaning rod holders (I think) and remove the catches for the engine cover and rear ventilators. You would need to buy the Vorpanzer (flip-up armour), I think MR Modelbau markets this. There is a good article in the book "Modellers Guide to the Tiger Tank" from Ampersand publishing. They use the Tamiya model, but I think the Dragon would be better.

I don't think there would be any need for advanced skills to make the model you want.

Gents, this is very interesting. Thanks for starting this post. I have seen John's (Sticky) VK3601(H) and he did a fantastic job.

Dragon has their VK4501 Tiger P, but Italeri also put one out that is closer to the prototype Tiger P. Italeri's VK4501(P) is not as good as the newer Dragon kit, but some of the parts could be used for backdating.

I'm interested to see how you make out with the VK4501(H), using the Dragon Tiger I Initial kit.

Cheers !!

Be careful... Dragon are releasing so much new stuff these days, they might produce a kit of this tank just when you finish all your work!

In any case, it's not a trivial conversion. Look at the bolts on the sprocket - they don't have the same positions as the ones in Dragon's Initial kit.
