I posted this question before but I can't seem to get anyone to agree! Did the DAK use any camo patterns over the standard yellow? If so what color were they? I had a couple of answers before but when I asked some old timers at my local hobby shops they seem to think that there was camo used in dark brown shades in lines and splinter patterns. One guy said that there was a type of "ambush" scheme for the desert that you would have seen on artillery and AA guns and their supporting vehicles. What to do? HELP!

The Squadron Signal book Panzer Colors, discusses the camo that was used thru out the war. The DAK used various patterns using signal braun and light green.

Most (or all) DAK vehicles arrived in North Africa in standard European Gray, then repainted in Desert Yellow. Some vehicles were completely covered in yellow, some painted in irregular yellow splotches over the gray base, and some had a cross-hatch, or grid, pattern brush painted over the gray. Some had Desert Brown splotches painted over the Desert Yellow. There was also an undetermined shade of green used, but rarely. Even mud was occasionally used over Gray. Most patterns seem to be crudely or quickly done. I don't remember seeing any pics of 'splinter' patterns.
