heres a small dio i made using a plywood base built up with flower arranging foam glued down and covered with a mix of brown paint, white glue, water and baking soda, when all was hardened i used grass rope for the grass, the plugging method, some stuff i found outside for the bushes(not sure what it is but it grows on trees and looks just like scale bushes), balsa wood for the fence and baking soda for the snow,
the kit was tamiyas old 251 and crew its an old and crappy kit i know but i was and am still only just starting out in this modeling thing and these kits are new to me and cheap so i enjoy building them, i dressed the figures up a tad to try make them fit better using tissue for some winter rags and also scratched a bit of gear for the 251. all in all i was very happy with the result and this still sits proudly on my winter stuff shelf. thank you for looking.

Nice work, you have made a very fine diorama - the last black and white photo is just superb!

Only one little thing, you might consider gluing the tracks down on top of the roadwheels - it cam be done with CA - super - glue.

The field on the right hand side of the halftrack looks a little bare, could use some kind of action.

Othervise, you have got a lot out of those old kits!

I agree with Jan. Glue the tracks with some superglue.

I really love that ole piece of Tamiya kit - I've made some of them, and its a very nice kit. Ok it could probably need some pe, but otherwise a great kit.

Well done with the snow and the figgies. Like their coats.

Great job on the snow, Ron. It looks very convincing. How did you make it?

Cheers

Very nice dio Ron. The halftrack and figures look really good. The ground work, with all the snow looks very convincing.

Ron:

Dio looks great. I like the footprints from the soldiers. Pics are nice. The only thing I noticed was the tracks also (sorry to beat the dead mule)

Great job

Nice Ron, the first and second pics. look like photos out of a reference book.
The snow on the road is very convincing, how did you get that semi melted effect.

Ola Ron

I have to say you really did a great job in using the old Tamiya Hanomag as a centrepiece in a very fine diorama. I`m not going to mention the tracks others have done that already. What I would like to compliment you on is the whitewash of the vehicle which is very well done and it looks like the real McCoy. I also like the whole ambiance of the scene and the snow is very well executed... with some highlights as the footsteps in the snow... good eye for detail. The stuff like the grass and foliage is also from a good diversity.

You have done a very good job.

Mate thats easily the best winter dio i have seen this year. The way you made the snow effect especially on the road side indicates you did your research very thoroughly.

Thanks for the brief description on how you made....i shall be noting the method you used for making snow. My wife will be wondering where her baking soda went to.

thanks for the kind comments and pointers guys its very much appreciated, i never paid any mind to the tracks back when i built this but i will take care of that. the semi melted snow affect if i remember correctly was acheived by first spraying clear satin from a can let dry then applying a mix of white glue and water with a brush and sprinkle baking soda evenly blowing off the loose stuff, then the places i wanted it to look semi melted or frozen i sprayed back over and this sort of made the baking soda transparent it took several layers to build up the snow around the melted parts and track marks and other impressions and finally i sprayed over the whole thing lightly with hairspay to fix everything this also added a slight shine like crispy snow has, hope this makes some kind of sense and i would practice all the above on a scrap piece before ruining a nice dio

DADDY LIKE!

I really like the winter length coats flying in the breeze. It gives this one a sense of motion.

A first rate job to a standard I am striving to achieve.
I have a point about the tracks though.
At a glance your scene depicts movement and a general feeling of speed. If, as I suspect your 251 is shown as still in motion then the tracks would not be sagging but would be taught across the top. The only problem I can see in your tracks is that in the second shot the track rises a little just behind the drive wheel. This could easily be flattened out.

All in all a great effort.

Regards
Alex

PS If the thing is supposed to be stopped or I have misread the placement of the drive wheel then disregard all I have said
