Saw pictures from the Dragon Stand at the Japan Plamodel and Radicon Show. Spotted a picture board in the middle of all their WW2 releases of an M1A1 AIM anyone got any info on this. Is it one of the expected M1 releases in 1:35.

This will be 1/35 and it will be a practically all new tooled kit. A sort of preview was their recent M1 Panther II mine roller vehicle that was all new. But I hear the upcoming Abrams will fix some problems that new kit had. It appears the running gear and sideskirts will be properly represented for a change, and all sorts of other goodies.

I'd like to see them include the basic interior they had in the past Abrams kits, but I am afraid they will do away with it to keep costs down.

I'm excited about it coming, which I heard here was supposed to be by year's end. We shall see.

I have seen the Panther II, there is a build article by John Murphy in this months copy of Military In Scale. Looks great. If the next Abrahams kit is as impressive as this it should be good.
Although there didn't appear to be a model on display i assume if it has appeared at the shown in Japan it can't be long before it appears in the Model Shops.
Just need Modern IOF figures in their Catagory 2 programme to include with these kits.

I was lucky enough to see the schematics of the new kit last month and to my (completely uninformed M1 eyes) it looked amazing. I also handled a (resin) copy of DML's turret - similar comments apply...

They have constantly gone back and re-evaluated the model with their consultants, so apart from my total ignorance of the M1, to me at least, this tells me they are taking things VERY seriously indeed. something that gives me a lot of confidence as an M1 dummy (like myself) should be able to build the thing out of the box and produce an accurate model. As I understand it, the model is 100% new although this could be confirmed quite easily - ask Pawel (Vodnik)..Jim

Yup, that's the one. I must congratulate you - You are probably the only person who noticed our Abrams poster among all the WW2 releases :-) :-)

I can confirm that the kit will be 99.9% new tooling, and I really mean NEW. This 0.1% of parts will be all that we use from M1 Panther II. Nothing at all will be used from old DML M1A1 kits.

And anticipating a question: the release date is not known yet. Today I received new CAD drawings of hull parts and I still see some areas that need improvements. The turret design however is practically finished and the poster you saw in Japan will soon be on DML website.

Well, I'll hold up my hands to that one. For some reason I DIDN'T include it when I did the summary on the Trade Show... Sorry...Jim

Pawel, Can you at least confirm or deny that the partial interior parts will still be included? These are a great start to the turret interior and driver's positions.

Interior parts will not be included, at least not in first AIM and SEP releases. The old ones would probably not fit to new turret and new ones were not designed. The only interior parts are some gun breech details.

Christmas is going to be confusing.

Should I get this one? Or the Panzer IV? Or the Tiger? Or one of the SdKfzs? Or the FLAK? Or any other surprise that DML has in store?

Slightly , but what excites me immensely about this kit, is the thought of an M1 OOB I'm not the world's greatest modern fan, I know little about the subject, but the idea of 'varying the diet' of 251s, KVs and Shermans really gets the pulses racing. It's not going to be 'shake 'n bake' but it'll be a damn sight easier to put together a good M1 kit than the previous kits (all of which needed a bit of additional work). Also the possibilities of different schemes thanks to the ECHELON decals adds a certain 'spice' to the idea...Jim

Very exciting news. Although I am an exclusive german armor modeler, surprisingly, the M1 is the only tank, I had modeled twice.

But, Jeep, get the Pz IV!
