Here's a little dio I did about a year ago using the Tamiya SdKfz 222 and TriStar DAK figures. I am trying to get better at figure painting, so any constructive criticism is welcome:

Ola Rian

This is a very neat diorama you have made.
I love the minimal weathering of your vehicles and the amount of paintchips is just enough. The Vehicle could even be a little more dustier but I think you have done very well.
I love the sanddune.. It looks like the real McCoy with the windtracks in it... I also like the little shrubs/grasses you added to it. Also the tiretracks are a nice detail.
The Crew looks like a good paintjob. Here and there are some points on which I think you could work a bit more or learn a bit more but since I don`t paint my figures better I don`t think I`m the right person to criticize on this point.

Overall a very good diorama.

Nice job overall. I agree with the dusty comment. The desert get super dusty. That translates to not only the AFV but the figues. I would pastel these guys a bit.
The figure painting is pretty nice. The only comments I would maker are the eyes and a couple of small places around the cuffs. The eyes look a bit 'overpainted' --- too much white on the lids. In a couple of places the shadow wash looks a bit uneven.

I do like the dune, its well executed and I like the volume of jerry cans.

I agree with other posters- overall a very good work, sand looks very realistic. As for the eyes you could use thie technique, Its easy and the result is quite good IMHO. So first of all you must paint a thin black line through the center of the eye, dont bother 'bout the lenght as this will be corrected later. Then two white lines on the sides of the black line should be added, again lenght doesen't matter, just the thickness. Last thing would be to paint around the eye with a flesh colour or lightly darkened flesh to simulate the eyelids, even darker as the upper lid.

Cheers

Hi Mate
I think its a great dio and i think you do yourself a little harsh on your self,i think the figures are great the blending will come with practice try not to use white with the eyes, tone it down with a little blue, and when you do the eye ball use a vertical line instead of a dot. There are some great tutorials on the site but iam sure you will get some great advice from the very good fig painters.
Keep up the great work practice practice make mistakes practice mistakes like i did with a figure today, lol lol.
Cheers Chris

dio looks great, always liked armoured cars ive been trying to snag one of these on ebay , yours is very nicely done, figs look great except the eyes and personally i cant paint eyes any better in 1/35 so i dont i just leave them as shadows without any white, the scene looks natural and all sits and fits well, i like it.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will have to retrieve this one from the display case at my local Hobby Shop and dust it up a bit. I don't know if I can get to the eyes since the figures are now attached to the base, but I can try.

I pretty much like what I'm seeing here. NO big problems. Yeah, the eyes need work, but that's been addressed already.
The only thing I can add is the detraction of those old Tamiya gerry cans withthe horrible handles. They may not show in real life, but the last dio pic shows them off. I do like how you've opened them, hoever and it looks like you added some metal paint inside the spouts. Nice touch.

hey rian, nice dio, i really like the standing guy, but if it stops, the vehicle would ''sink'' a little bit in the sand i think. but I have no experience with dessert stuff, so never mind

Yes, I agree with you about those terrible old Tamiya Jerry Cans. That's why the figure is sitting on them, to hide them. And yes, I brushed a little Floquil Gun Metal inside the spouts... Thanks for noticing.
