Some years back a company by the name of KMC produced a conversion for Italeri's 105mm howitzer converting it to the 3" U.S. AT gun.
M5. M5's had the same splinter shield as the l05. However prior to D-Day all towed units going to Europe were switched the the M-6 version. Same gun, different shield. #1 - Anyone out there with the old KMC conversion willing to part with it, and #2. Any of you know if the M6 conversion was ever produced for the Italeri gun.

Warriors made the M6 3" anti-tank gun conversion for the Italeri M101. It was item number MW014 and originally retailed for $29.95.

Thanks Sabot. Just for everybodies edification and enjoyment, I talked to powers that be at VLS. Both the KMC M5 conversion, and the M6 conversion (trakz) are history and long gone out of the inventory.

You're right, the gun never changed (always the M5) but there was no overall system designation or component model number that went from M5 to M6 on this item. The original item was composed of a Gun, 3-inch, M5; a Carriage, 3-inch gun, M1; and a Recoil Mechanism, 3-inch gun, M9. The carriage and shield were not exactly like that on the Carriage, 105mm howitzer, M2/M2A1, but close. The carriage with the new angled shield was the M6, but the gun was still the M5 and the recoil mech. the M9 or M9A1.

The confusion results from model companies and authors who can't get a handle on how nomenclature systems work.
