Hi all,
Here’s my entry for the Burn Baby Burn campaign. It’s not a vehicle (nor dragon) but when I read “all methods of using fire to fight the enemy is allowed” I immediately thought of the ritual of burning human waste on army bases during the Vietnam war. I bet every Vietnam veteran still remembers the awfull smell and allthough maybe not intended to, it may have scared of some VC at times (and this is where it fits the campaing ).
This vignette depicts a scene at fire base Veghel during the Vietnam war. The outhouse was built with balsa and the inside is covered with ‘toilet-graffity”. The fire was an experiment and can still use some improvements but I’m quite happy with the result.
I hope you like it and it’s excepted in this campaign, if not, no hard feelings; I’ll just move it over to the Welcome to the Nam campaign.

Mark,
I don't know how you did it (yes, I am curious) but this is by far the best and most realistic fire/smoke I have ever seen in modelling.
Very well done.
Is there a light below the barrel and does it flicker?
Cheers,
Pascal

Agreed. Un-be-liev-ab-le.
Please share how you did this. I can see this method being used quite often in the future.

Well the fire is actually quite simple to do. I used transparent silicone kit (used to ‘seal’ bathrooms etc); I put a blob of the kit on a piece of card and then start ‘pulling up’ flames; if you have trouble keeping the flames up, you could try keeping the blob upside down and pull downward (hope I make sense). I placed a (bright) lightbulb and orange filter under the fire. You could also use transparant paints (yellow/orange) to colour the flames. I didn’t use a flickering light because I feel everything is captured in time (and it’s easier when taking pictures ) but ofcourse this is personal. The smoke is cotton, coloured using black pastels.
I’m glad you like it.
