Well, I just got the Trumpeteer KV 1 so I will push through with an OOB build, hopefully in time for the CT.show next Sunday.
I have been working from 3 PM till 7: 30. There are no fit problems to this point.I recommend opening the holes for various parts that get pointed out in step 1,this will make assembly easy.

Hi, Looks good so far. Am curious to watch it as you go along.
Trumpter has really done well releasing a series of very nice and well detailed kits, and for very good prices too. And even though they don't measure up, by parts numbers and detail, to the lastest of Dragon's releases, they are carving their own nitch, and a very good nitch it is indeed, in good quality kits that most of us will be buying here in the future, either to build OOTB or to add various aftermarket details to them that I'm sure will be coming out before too long.
Take care, Sgirty

It's an extraordinary kit. It was reviewed and 90% built, here:
https://armorama.kitmaker.net/review/1094
The only thing that is missing from it, are PE grilles for the engine deck along with the rectangular tool box and the square storage boxes...Jim

What is strange about this kit is they DIDN'T bill it as a 'two-in-one' wth the additional mantlet and gun barrel for the Kv-8, they could probably have got a lot more mileage out of it...
Are those the storage boxes from the KV-2? One thing you can add (if you have a bad case of AMS) is to add the straps that were often used to keep them closed..
Next thing for me will be the Kv 2 with the new Voyager AM set...Jim

Looking good so far on your KV-1 Carl. Trumpeter's newest releases seem like breeze to assemble.
I May have to snap up one of these for myself
Does it go together as well as the Trumpeter KV-2 you did not long ago ?
Cheers !!

Robert, I have both this and the KV2 and the truth is that these are some of the best designed kits ever made. They aren't exactly shake n' bake but come damned close. The way they have designed them (by simply changing around sprues, turrets and adding more hull items) means that they can do all 12 variants of the KV almost effortlessly. Even at the slow speed I build, meant I was able to put this together in two days they are real fun to build!
Carl, i'll keep my fingers crossed for you this weekend at the show!..Jim

Tonight,I painted the track units.
They are made from the link and length in the kit, just like I did on the KV2.
This time,I installed the inner roadwheels, and the inner support rollers to help shape the track sections.
the axle bits were shortened on the idler and sprocket areas of the hull. This makes it easier to slide the track into place, then attach the outer wheels to trap it in place.
More pictures tomorrow,It seems the main assembly will finish up then.
Boy this is a great kit!

Starting to look like a tank
These are complete units of track, painted with burnt umber.
Here they are installed, then the outer roadwheels are added.
A little gloss, a little decals..And it aonly needs weathering.(oh the headlight will be the last thing installed

Your doing a great job, Carl. Are they the kit decals ?
I have these kits, along with the Trumpeter 1/35th KV-1 M1942 Heavy Cast Turret kits arriving at my shop on Friday (07OKT05). Still waiting on that KV-1 M1942 Simplified Turret version (argh !).
Looks like great kit to do OOB too
Cheers !!

Those are the kit decals, and they go on easily.UI will know after I put the final dullcoat on to see how they do.I have put my favorite Hudson and Allen Mud on it.and will post pictures Saturday.
Alan,Whats with the russian armor,? Well it goes together so easy I use it as a break. But DON'T ask me about th KV 85 I am slowly working on.I am thinking of a Kubinka green and black scheme for that...
