These are a few pictures of a second Medics Diorama that Jackhammer81 (Kevin) and I are submitting for the Medics Campaign. The base is only about 75% complete with adjustments needing to be made on various points...figures will also be added to complete the scene...
Let us know what you think....All comments and suggestions are welcome and wanted...

If you're going for a swamp you've nailed the look.
If it is a swamp, be careful where you place figures. I would expect some footprints in the ground. Plus the base of the grass would be darker in a swamp.
The downed tree is great. The grass as usual is top notch.

Super good! I like the fallen, split tree. I wonder about the leaves though. They look just stuck on. Maybe consider loosing them, or adding a finer branch structure that they could attach to.

Ola Mary and Kevin...
First of all it is a very nice piece of work this and again it shows the skill in groundwork you both have.... I too am not too fond of the leaves on the tree which on his turn looks terrific. I also like the swampy look the whole scene has. Fantastic work.
I second Scott with his suggestion about the grass I hope this can be done still.....
But it is again a very nice thing you two made.

Thanks for the comments everyone. We appreciate them and getting feedback. Initally we werent exactly going for swampy ground but trying for muddy boggy ground which i guess is a swamp lol. There are foot prints there just cant see them well. I'll see if reshooting hsows them better. We plan to shorten some of the tall grasses and change the leaves a bit. Also instore is going to be sime mucky leaves in the bog and more pronounced puddles of water. This was our first time using Hudson and Allen mud and I have to say we are quite pleased with the results. Kevin

Nice work Mary and Kevin,
I think you have got the boggy ground just right.
May I ask what the story behind this dio is?

I was tempted to add this line to my first post and opted not to (don't know why just didn't)
"this one may be a 'gotta see it live' diorama".
I know sometimes things get distorted via photos.
Keep on keepin' on.

i ll say one thing only ...i definately would not like to put my feet in there ....lookss so ...swampy !!!!!!! Pretty nice recreation of such an area and the feeling i get is the one u wanna give to the spectator. Pretty realistic look overall and with the proper addition of the figures will end to a very interesting scene !!! Good job !!!!

Mary and Kevin - an excellent start to your dio.
I must admit that after the first few comments I had to return to the photos to look for these "leaves". I suppose they could be leaves on the branches, however to me it looks like a tropical/swamp fungus we get on dead timber in Australia. When I was a kid we called it snakes bread. :-)
It is usually an orange/rust colour and grows singly and in clumps. It is flat - bit like a mushroom flat - and up to the size of a saucer.
That is what I thought of when I first saw the photos.
By the way LUURRV the mud.

Outstanding groundwork. I will agree it looks like a swampy/marshy area, that dead tree looks extemely realistic.
Its great to see a combined effort from the two of you
What figures will you be using ?
Cheers !!

Mary and Kevin:
The base is looking great. I agree that some of the tall grass needs trimming. I have Hudson and Allen Mud in my diorama supplies, but have not tried it out yet. How did you apply it to your base?
Keith

Thanks everyone for the comments and feedback. Andy- its going to have a few Germans on it. Two wounded and one Medic. The tree was hit with some type of round that is why the trunk is all splintered. Alan no zombies this time at least i dint think!! It has been a year since she sprung the last ones on us though so something could be up her sleeve Keith a lot of the tall grass has been trimmed since the pics were posted. Should have some more up soon. Again we really appreciate all the comments both good and bad. Thanks! Kevin and Mary

I would also like to thank everyone for their kind comments and critiques.
Keith..to answer your question about the mud. First i decided what look i was going for. I wanted to portray a wet muddy look where i will have standing water as to simulate "mud puddles" etc. So..instead of mixing the mud with water as recommended...i mixed it with Future floor polish. Mix it with enough of the liquid to achieve the consistancy that you are going for. After that..i simply used an old paint brush to paint and dab the mud into place..and on occasion..even my fingers...lol...It goes on very easily..and by using the future..the mud will have that "wet" look when it dries...
