Hello all
I've been using this stuff on a 1/16 figure I'm building, but even after three coats the paint still has a slightly glossy sheen. Also the varnish bubbles really badly at even the slightest brush stroke(I am applying by brush obviously). Anyone have an idea what I might be doing wrong, or alternatively suggest a better matt varnish to use?

I just bought a bottle of that stuff too. Seems good. It doesn't seem to produce a dead flat coat. I haven't had much problems with this varnish bubbling. Too hard brushing usually produces bubbles. Try brushing a little gentler. Thinning the varnish might also help, as the bubbles break easier.
I have tried almost every flat coat available here in Finland and none of them produces a dead flat coat. Humbroll's flat varnish (in the glass bottle) makes a close enough flat, but likes to leave streaks (like flat/not-flat marks). That stuff is also hellish to mix, as the flattening agent likes to settle to the bottom of the bottle into thick blob. The varnish in a tin seems quite the same, except it doesn't have the problems with flat agent settling down.
One of my recent experiments is a mixture of johnson floor wax and tamiya flat agent (I remember Gunze Sangyo makes one too, that should work as well). This stuff is great for brushing by hand. I still have to find the mixing ratio that produces as flat a coat as possible, but doesn't leave white spot when brushing. Dead flat seems only possible with an airbrush.

Thanks Eetu. I've tried thinning with water and had much the same results as you. Sounds like I shall have to airbrush it.

Thanks, I'll give that a try. I've recently started using Vallejo acrylics and am quite impressed by them
