I want to wrap my sniper's rifle with something to replicate burlap. I thought about facial tissue, but I think the texture may be too fine. Any ideas?

Go to a gun shop......they have gun cleaning wads.....they cut nicely into stips and resembles burlap in 1/35th scale.

Not sure how well it will look after painting - but you might want to try some medical guase. It comes in a few different thicknesses.

Perhaps an old T-shirt will work too, once it's painited. I like the idea of the cleaning patches though. Many of use also use old T-shirts for that task too.....

Old T shirt material is good for some things but in this case would be too thick and the weave would be too open for 1/35th scale burlap to rap a sniper's rifle with.....same with medical gauze.....the gun cleaning wads have a very fine weave perfect for this application.....it will look a little thick when it's dry...but once soaked in a 50/50 water/white glue mixture and wrapped around the rifle it will thin out to the correct scale.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I will get some of the gun cleaning wads and give them a try.

I use strips of LINEN... soak them in a darker brown shade wash than the final appearance desired overnight. Go to a local fabric store and take a look around. Cheap and very realistic.
