This is an inprogress shot of my Shilka. It's the Dragon kit, and needed some surgery for me to be able to attach the turret to the hull, i.e. scrape and shave the hole in the upper hull larger to accomadate the guns.
It is representing a East German Shilka, but I transposed the "1" and the "6" but I didn't realize it till too late.
The tracks have not been painted yet or been installed. And it looks like I have to put a second coat of dullcoat on.

Looks great. Mean looking machine.
Only thing I noticed is that you need to hollow out the gun barrels.
Nice build.

Looks good, but I think you should drill out the gun barrels.

Overall i think it looks very good. I only have two suggestions from what i found at a quick glance.
1. You might want to drill out the guns.
2. In the third picture, tou can see 3 sink holes in the Blade/mount.
Other than that a really good looking build
Herky
Crap two other guys beat me to the drilling out part.... LOL

Nice work.
One question though, what green did you use? Very interesting green as I am also in search for a green for my eastern block AFV.
thanks,

I used Model Master Dark Green out of their spray can. I then drybrushed with medium Green then armor sand.
I would use a Forst Green or Dark green for the Polish/ USSR/ East German vehicles.

Thats a good color choice,Al.Try that hot pin point idea,to do the ends of the barrels, open them more with a #11 blade end after. (++) (++)

Fine work. Nothing to add to the further comments about the sink holes and solid barrels. These points will be easily fixed anyway. I'm just surprised by the radar dome color.
As far the 1 and 6 are concerned, I won't worry too much myself except if you wanted to depict a precise vehicle from a defined unit.
Keep on posting when your tracks are on.

My dremel tool does not have that small. sorry guys
Nice model! good work!
for drilling holes, use the very sharp top of X-acto knife (hobby knife).
stub it in the middle and do some circular spinning, that will do the trick!
if i can drill a barrel of a MG34 or even a infantry rifle in 1:35 you can surely drill out that barrels and the look of your model will end up even better!
cheers

You wouldn't want to use a Dremel here, even with small enouygh bits. Too much speed and heat.
Two options
1. Use a #11 blade and carefully turn it back and forth to open these up. (easy and convenient but not very desireable in the long run)
2. Invest in a pin vice and some micro drill bits. This relatively cheap tool will be a constant companion on your work bench. (Small initial investment but most desirable for this kind of application.)

There isn't much difference, except the radar.

really nice model!!
I do not know if you already noticed it but the national insignia is wrong.
I felt from your model pix something was wrong but your reference photo confirmend the black has to be left and the yellow right.

It's the right national insignia. I just noticed that it's upside down on the model

Nothing changed on the model except for I added the jerry cans on the back of the turret, I scratched the holder underneath, and the strap is blue painters tape painted olive. Also drybrushed the tacks armor sand to simulate dried dirt (like in the ref photo i posted). I drilled out the barrels a little, just enough to get the impression!!!!!

Nice Shilka, Darktrooper! Any problems with the build? I'm currently building a V1 myself.
BTW, can anyone point me to some good pics of the Shilka's guns? I heard that the kit needs some cooling lines and assorted cables. I don't have access to the issue of MMIR that lists the tweaks needed for the DML kit.
Thanks!
