Hi all
Iam hoping that Jim will give permision for this to take place

I have been running this idea through my mind for a while (yes i know some of you are saying that wont take long Chris)...lol.
I wanted to provide an award for a diorama for the most effective interpretation of D-Day or perhaps D-Day plus? the finer points can be decided by more competant members than me.
I was unable to attend the 60th of D-DAY in Normandy as i was going through the process of immigration and even though i asked for permission it was denied and if i had gone back i would have had to start the whole process again and from the UK and further more spend another $3,500 in application fees.
Therefore i was unable to attend with my father, how ever upon his return he posted me two medals with a letter from the issuing authority.
This is the medal and it carries the serial number 4219

These were only issued to Vets and direct members of their familys my father managed to get one each for my sons and one for me i know that my sons will treasure these medals and the legacy of what their grandfather did with so many others will live on.
I know that by offering this medal as a special award the people that are members of this site and who i hope will take part and should win i know will treasure this piece of HISTORY.
On that note any feed back would be great as to how we can move this forward,if Jim is OK with the idea i will send the medal to him for safe keeping untill we have a winner ,should there be any unforseen circumstances that should dictate that i not be around.
I was thinking that perhaps it could Kick off in the new year.
Cheers Chris

Wow Chris... that is a really generous thing to do. I am touched.

I think this is a great idea and we can certainly form some kind of campaign around the notion of honoring D-Day veterans.

Thanks,
Jim

Hi Guys

I did forget to mention that on the reverse of the medal where the serial # is there is a place for the winner to have there name engraved.
Thank you all for the kind words in your posts the three most important people that have the remaining medals are my dad and my two sons, and i feel that with this medal being awarded it will go to a person with a deep understanding of what the medal means to me and the ultimate sacrfice that those individuals made 60 years ago I have spoken to my father and he felt that it was the right thing to do as he informed me to day out of his section of The Normandy Vetrens Association Monmouthshire Branch there is just himself and Tom Griffiths left, and please belive me it is with the greatest of pleasure that i do it

What an excellent gesture. Thanks Chris. Things like this make me proud of being an Armorama member. So many good guys over here, like a great family.

Thanks again.... A special Campaign or Group Build, like Scott mentioned, sounds like the thing to do.

Looking forward to the follow up of this wonderful gesture.

Thanks !!
