Thanks to all for the input on bridge building ... the rope variety. Progess is being made..planks are only placed as the "rope" needs primer and paint. Still a lot to do but I like the look of the bridge so far.

Nice idea there John!
Perhaps you should look a bit on the bridge to be. It looks like the ropes are made from copper. I would worry that the would sag with time and perhaps chose something sturdier.

John, make sure you soak that tree cut in turps and linseed oil or it will split and check when it completely dries out. 3/4 turps to 1/4 linseed oil.
Trust me I used to make coffee tables and other furniture out of tree cuts [ all types of wood ], when the natural moisture leaves a cut of wood it will split. By putting moisture back in [ turps & linseed oil ] it will last dam near forever.
