Friends,
a little over a year ago we had the Remember Market Garden (RMG) Campaign.
During that Campaign I worked on a shadowbox diorama depicting the cellar in wich General Urquhart had his Divisional Headquarters during the Battle of Arnhem in 1944.
Due to bad luck, the diorama was severely damaged and I had no ambition to recover the damage. The idea and ambition of building the scene itself, never let go of me.
I'm proud to announce that I refound ambition to start this project again. I decided to start from scratch again. Below are some in progress pics of this shadowbox diorama :
The actual scene I'm rebuilding in 1/35th scale
The Main Layout
The Construction for the Hallway
The Construction for the Wooden Floor (made in plastic)
and
All items combined
I hope you like it and I'll keep you guys posted on the progress I'll be making.

Eagle I remember the start of the shadowbox but didn't realize it ha been damaged beyond recovery. Glad to hear that you are not letting that mishap keep you from pursuing the project

Great News! It's two fold - you're activily posting which means you're building and not 'working'. And you've taken up this project again -Nice re-start.

Danny, that looks like it will be a sweet build, are you going to give the impression of a partial beamed ceiling or completely cover the top ?

Cheyenne,
the diorama will be one of the shadowbox type, so the ceiling will be totally covered. The only way to look into the diorama, will be from "the front" (looking from the bottom up of the second image).
The scene will have dimmed lights to create that special claustrophobic atmosphere....

Jeroen,
the image is a (bad) picure of the 1:1 scale diorama that is in the Airborne Museum in Oosterbeek...... never been there ?? it's a MUST to see if you have the slightest interest in the Battle of Arnhem !! I'll be you're guide if you would like to go there someday !
The number of figures is still undetermened.... at least there will be :
- General Urquhart (Division cmdr)
- General Hicks (cmdr of the 1st airlanding Brigade)
- Lieutenant-Colonel Robert Loder-Symonds (cmdr Royal Artillery)
- Lieutenant-Colonel Charles Mackenzie (GSO 1 (Operations))
- Phantom radio operator
- Phantom radio operator assistant (messenger)
- Wounded in a bunk
- medic treating the wounded guy
So there will be at least 8 figures, making it a crowded little room , just like in the real situation

It is good to see this diorama rising as a Phoenix out of the ashes of the Cellar you built earlier. I can`t say much of it then it looks good. And that I`m looking forward to more progress of this project.... Have you added woodgrain to the floorboards?
