Hi,

I'm trying to decide between an Iwata HP-C and Iwata HP-B. I already own a Badger 150 and Badger 200 so I was leaning toward the HP-B. I saw a website noting that you need to ensure that the paint you use is fine enough for the HP-B. Has anyone had any troubles using common hobby paints in this airbrush? (Tamiya, MM, Vallejo) The cup seems kind of small on the HP-B but It is probably sufficient to do the camo on small armour and planes. Especially considering I can do larger stuff with the Badgers. Is the HP-B just too finicky to use compared to the HP-C or is it just a more limited use airbrush because of the nozzle, needle and cup size?

Cheers,

Jim

I use an Iwata HP-B for fine details, works fine with Model Master Enamels.
I rarely use acrylics, so can not tell you how it works with them. I thin a little more, that all.

I cannot personally comment on the B or C. I use an Eclipse HP-SBS which is just the cat's meow for ABing all manner of paints with exceptional control.

HTH a bit.

I'm using the Iwata Eclipse HP-BCS alongside my Badger 150 and Paasche VL - acrylics 99% of the time - and love it.

I have quick-connects on all the airbrush hoses, so I switch on the fly between the Paasche VL for primer coats and large area spraying, the Badger 150 for camouflage and medium-sized area coverage, and the Iwata for the fine detail and weathering.

Absolutely no problems with the Iwata at all - and I wondered why I waited so long to get one...

I have an HP-B and I love it, in fact I like using it so much I gave my Aztec to a friend and bought another Iwata AB for general use. (Revolution CR) The HP-B is fantastic for detail and camo work. I mainly use acrylics, Tamiya most of the time and sometimes Vallejo, and MM. I haven't had any problems shooting them through my HP-B. You just have to make sure they are thinned enough. The cup may look small but the brush atomizes the paint so well you can do a secondary camo color easily with one cup or less on a 35th scale AFV. I would also reccomend getting a pre-set handle for it, makes life a little easier .

HTH,
Mike

Hi Guys,

Thanks for your replies. Other than forums like this, it is surprisingly difficult to get info on so many products that is not just from the manufacturer's mouth. So people like both the HP-C and the HP-B. Why would I want to get the HP-B over the HP-C and vice versa? Is it just a matter of getting wider coverage with the HP-C and better fine lines with the HP-B?

Cheers,

Jim
