Does any one know where I can find information (pictures, diagrams, sketches) of japanese WWII island defenses. I find plenty of information about the german defenses, especially about D-Day. Hard to find much about the japanese defenses. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

There is actually a historical explanation as to why there arent many japanese island defenses....its because they didnt defend their island from the shores when the allies finally invaded the mainland of Japan.

During Operation Iceberg, the japanese commanders conceded their shores for a more concentrated defense in-land. The allies literally stroll onto the shores with hardly any resistance. The japanese fortified themselves on higher ground giving themselves the natural advantage. Alot of allies died trying to over-run the japanese then.

Doing a dio on japanese defenses may not be historically accurate if thats what you were thinking of.

Hello Hobbit, get yourself a copy of Osprey's book Japanese Pacific Island Defences. Just what the doctor ordered for you.
There are not too many sites out there that show you what you are looking for, at least in the form of pictures.
