Here is one photo of a gun jeep.
You did a good job portraying the little Jeep. a couple of things that you may consider for your nest one if the star on the hood (Bonnet) is backward. For some strange reason the instruction sheets on the Academy and AFV Club show it the way it was re-Vietnam. The point of the star is pointing toward eh front of hood. Also Th rear lower fender portions near teh rear wheels go straight down to a point and not as the way that the kit injected. The kit is a remake of the M151 A2 but the manufacture forgot to correct the rear fender openings (not your fault). The armor plate is done very well. I have seen this type of style used a lot in Nam. The M-60 was the main gun on the center pedestal that was used on the MUTT's. There were however a couple of Mutts that had the thirty cals. WE also had a couple of M 37 3/4 tons that had the 30's on board. The only problem was getting parts to repair them. They were not an authorized weapon for the US Army. The ones that were used came from some of the ARVN units that supported us. I am not sure if you can see the rear fender opening on teh Lil Ace or not. But the MP Jeep will show the opening.

Now thats one nicely weathered jeep. I remember my command jeeps used to look as dirty as that.

I would probably try to add more dust on the top half of the jeep and dirty up the decal to make it look more uniform as oppose to having a huge contrast in the dirty bits and the clean bits.

Hi guys

Richie great job on the Mutt. I really like the small details on the inside of the vehicle. If I can I would like to ask a general question about these uparmored jeeps. Why was no plates set to cover the front on the motor ? To me it would seem that a couple of rounds into the radiator or engine block and the jeep is dead in the water.

Just my 2 cents

Richie, Sorry its taken me so long to comment on this one..I think you have done a great job thus far..for my taste..the red mud/dust is just a little too bright..and again..that is just my taste. Other than that..i really like it..All the extra little details are great..the sunglasses, maps, and the radio and even looks like a pop can...Great Job...Can't wait to see this one go into the diorama.

Nice job and lots of neat stuff to look at in the back.
I'm with Tankysgirl on the amount and intensity of dust/mud. The links support that as do the photos in Squadron's Guntrucks book. As I understand it, the guntrucks were used primarily as convoy escorts on highways which would not have had the amount of dust you've shown. I also agree the star on the hood needs to blend in withthe rest of the hood.
You are correct in using the M1919. The most famous M151 Guntruck "California Dreamin'" had that configuration. It would also be correct to use one or two M-60's. The Squadron book shows an armored jeep with twin M-60's without the shoulder stock and equipped with pouches to catch the spent cartridges. These were mounted on a single pintle similar to the one used in the early Tamiya/Academy kits.

Wolf Six I cannot shed any light on the lack of radiator armour, maybe overheating ??? One of the vets should know ? Most of the conversion work was Plastic card

We did not see the need. We were interested in protecting our crews. The added weight of the boiler plate that we used took it's toll on these little vehicles and adding more weight would defeat the purpose all together. It was the same problem they are now experiencing in Iraq now with the HMMV's.

Nice looking mutt, but there seems to be a notion that everywhere in vietnam the soil was orange-brown when in fact it was only in one area, some of the pix will show this

Very true statement. In the northern Higlands the soil is red clay. To the south it is dark brown to almost black. Along teh coast of course it is sandy.
