I don't trust painting instructions in DML kits and new DAK Tiger I is no exception. From three tanks featured in DML/Cyber-Hobby new kit, two are in overall greenish gray color (at least it looks green on box lid illustration) and one is in overall yellow/sand color. Could someone tell me what RAL colors were these DAK tigers painted?

Hi Pawel,
For DAK aspecific color " Dark yellow" was used until 1941.It was : RAL 8000.
In 1942 this color was changed for a " Dark sand" RAL 8020.
It's all I know.

Apparently the Tiger at Bovington had traces of RAL 8000 Gelbraun and RAL 7008 graugruen. This fits with what some sources say was the tropical scheme of 1/3 graugruen over gelbraun, in some form of disruptive (camouflage) pattern. I think this is the scheme Tiger 131 now has.
There doesn't seem to be any certainty over the alleged green colour, but this is often described as Olive Drab, from Italien or American stocks so may not have an RAL reference.
All I know is there are a lot of articles on the web and in books about this and I will put the above scheme on my tiger when i get round to it.

Yes, I've read Web articles about these two colors being used by DAK and later replaced by Braun RAL 8020 and Grau RAL 7027. But I would rather use single color for this model. So if the single color was used, which one was it?... Was it Gelbbraun RAL 8000 as Pierre wrote?

Pawel, I have an excellent ref book at home (Tank Power 13 - Tiger I, Vol 1), which specifically mentions a DAK Tiger, and the color. I believe it even mentions what the tactical number is.
I will check when I get home (about 2.5hrs), and post the exact quote from the book.

Thanks! Overall RAL 7008 tank should look interesting! And Cyber-Hobby kit includes decals for 142 tank.

Here's the other pics I was mentioning. First pic is T/N 111, and the rest of the pics are for T/N 141.
All pics taken from the following book:

T/N 111:

Dio ideas anyone?

As I have the Cyberhobby DAK Tiger I on the way and the RAL 7008 Graugruen single color paint scheme sounds interesting, does anyone know of an acrylic paint manufacturer that has that color in its inventory? I have easy access to Tamiya, Gunze, Modelmaster, PollyScale and Vallejo.

Keith, Model Master should have it, as it is listed as part of their enamel line (#2098).
They generally duplicate their enamels into the Acryl line.

Kevin,
Thanks for the response. Maybe I am showing my ignorance here, but I checked the Testors website for both their Modelmaster enamel, Modelmaster Acryl and PollyScale lines and did not see a Grauguen listed with an RAL 7008 number. I did see (and have in my own inventory) a Modelmaster Acryl Graugrun RLM 74. Are they the same thing?

I don't think RLM74 is the same thing as RAL7008, as RLM74 appears too grey.
Here's the details on the Model Master enamel:
Afrika Khakibraun 1941
Looking at the same site, it does not appear that this paint is availble in acryl.

Hi Kevin:
Thanks for the information, not only a good trader of model kits, but a font of information on German WWII paint! Next time I am at the LHS I will take a look at that enamel color and see what is comparable in an acrylic.

You are too kind Keith. I'm just pretty good at internet search, and have IPMS Stockholm saved in my favs for colro comparison.
When you find out what a good acrylic match is let me know, as I'll be needing it as well.

Keith, I hit the shop this afternoon (slow work day), and took a look at the Model Laster enamel RAL7008. Model Master doesn't have an acryl equivalent, but Tamiya XF-49 (Khaki) is a 99% match to the MM enamel RAL7008 A drop or two of Tamiya Buff to lighten it, and you're there.
