I can readily identify the TWMP on this M1A2 but what design is the rake in front of that? Israeli?
I had never seen this setup in the US inventory prior to me taking this photo in Baghdad during April of 2004 at the beginning of OIF 2.

Maybe for finding shallow IED's that fall under the center of the tank? as the dogbone wouldn't set off a "controled" IED........ Just a thought

It is similar to the mine rake we fitted to the blades of CEVs during Desert Storm. I'll look up the TM info on it.

Do the dimensions for the rake come in the TM? If so, I would appreciate a copy of that TM as well Rob/Rob (hehe).

It is the most recent modification, several years old by now. It includes the magnetic dogbone(rubber covered spikey deal) and an extension in front. The purpose of the extension out front is multi, covering anything from knocking down tilt-rods, moving large rocks, etc, and as well, for the paved roads, allows the tank the ability to push items without tearing the road up too much. TWMP use was very limited in Iraq, but from my understanding, the newer design was inspired by what the Bradley's mounted in Bosnia, letting them clear surface laid mines easily.
