When doing a wash do you use turpintine or mineral spirts with enamel paints?

Sir--I use airbrush cleaner...works. I also prefer to use acrylics for the wash. Easier to get off if I screw it up.

I use acrylics for my basecoats and dullcoat so thinner is fine with oil paint for color. If you use enamals, thiiner,I have found,is too "hot".It creates a chemical reaction if the paint hasn't cured enough(I once had a enamal paint job crinkle after a weeks worth of curing). I also got desperate once and used airbrush thinner for my was and the chemical reaction was instantanious.Destroyed 1 M-1 Abrams but learned a valuable leason.

newstarteer it is very simple.
First Go and get a tube of black oil piant and a tube of raw umber
You will use these many times in your modeling career
Get mineral spirts and thin it like 95% minersal spirits and 5% oil paint
Before You place it on the model cote the entire model with minerl spirits by brushing it on
Then take your wash that you made from the oil paint and thinner and cover the entire model making sure to get it into all the nooks and crannys of the model.
What i do with the raw umber is mix a tad of this in when i wash the lower part of the tank.
Just a little Help
Hope You Do Well

It will look better after you drybrush it. At least, that's what I find. Hope you have the same luck

I just finished dry brushing the tank and it looks really good. The dry brushing covered up all of the odd looking stains I has got from the wash. :-)

if theres a gamesworkshop place near you, they sell inks that work very good for figure washes and decent on vehicles.

Despite their strange product names (aimed at wargammers) they're products are really nice.

Something else you could try if you are having trouble with washes, is craft paint which is available almost everywhere and is very cheap.
One of the big bonuses, besides the range of clours is that if you don't like the result, a little water will take it all off.
