Hi Guys,
Can anybody tell me if the Comet was used in Korea. I've seen a number of references that it was but can find no photographic evidence
Thanks, Joe

Joe, yes the A34 Comet was used in Korea. I do believe it was used in the British army up till 1958.

I seem to remember reading an article a few months ago whilst doing some research on the Cromwell , that both the Comet and a few Cromwell's where used in Korea.
Apparently the Chinese captured a Comet or a Cromwell ( cant remember which it was ) and used it in action, It was eventually knocked out by a Centurion.

Joe, while I have no idea what units used the Comet, I can help get you started by directing you to what units were there:

Joe, been trying to find this out since you first posted as I have a book "At War In Korea" by George Forty, Ian Allan Ltd. ISBN 0 7110 1116 8, and on page 94 of said book it has an IWM photo of a comet "supposedly in Korea". The quality isnt great and I for one cant make out any markings or insignia..However, 'eres wot I got..
1 RTR Centurion (Recce Tp equipped with Cromwell)
Csqn/7RTR specialist Churchill variants
KRIH/ QOH Centurion
5 RIDG Centurion
As far as I know the Canadians were equipped with M4A3(76)W HVSS Shermies sooo ..Im left thinking that possibly only a single sqn of comets were operating maybe to replace the 1RTR Cromwells which were supposedly all lost by the battle of Happy Valley Jan '51(be aware I only came across that ref. as a line of narrative on one page of one of many sites..)
But I'm sure someone somewhere knows better, the great thing about the web is there is always someone willing to prove you wrong :-) :-)
Best of luck in getting a definite answer..have you tried picking the brains of the MAFVA mob??

Hi Martin
This started as a question in the Essex Branch of MAFVA about the Tanks used in Korea. I borrowed and begged stuff from everyone I know in the UK and Ireland with no Luck. I WILL eventually find out and promise to post.
Thanks for the Info, I'll see if I can find a copy of the book. Just as an aside the Comet was also used by Ireland, Finland, Greece, Burmah and South Africa. Lots of possible projects!!!
