Just curious. I know there are a few threads going with GREAT updates. I just wanted to see how some of the others are doing. Have you started yet? Run into any problems? Heck are you done? I know I'd love to be able to post photos of my dio. I'd like to hear how some of the others are going.

So I'll start.
I have my base done. I have etched a cobble stone sidewalk out of spare styrene, it's waiting for paint. I have made all the add on stone work, curb stones, stone front stoop, balcony stone trim. Made that in baked clay. I've got my first floor primary wall done and have the door and window opening cut. I did that out of plaster. I have the door and window frames done (out of balsa). I have the door started. I poured the second floor primary wall last night. I have finished the interior floors out of scarp balsa (using the digital diamond method for flooring ). I have found and printed wall paper for the interior. I have scratch built a couple of details for the interior.
My figure has been mainly assembled and I have the face base coated.

Whats left - wow -cut the frech doors out of the second floor. Make the french doors. Make the balcony. Make the stair. Make the windows (cross bar thingies). Make a portion of the roof. Wall paper and interior detail. Assemble the whole thing. Paint the building, weather the building. Let it snow. Paint the figure and put him on sniper duty.

Take the photos, develop the photos and email'em to Keith!

I have sketched a few ideas but did not decide on wich way I want to go.

And .. I am suffering of A) not enough time to spend on modeling and B) a bit of a modeling blues, I don't seem to get me started, every time I sit at my desk I loose the interest and start reading or sketching.

Bummer Roadkill - Go ahead and take the time off and hopefully the urge will strike again soon.

I run into the modeling-block sometimes but it is usually because of the forums or work.Other than that,I have my figure finished,just looking for a poster of a WWII female singer or the like.I have a particular idea that I want to execute.
Modellers' Block

As you could read in my "cold feet" updates, I finished my tree, put a nice tree hut in it, placed the whole thing of a round 6" base, scratchbuilt and painted a sniper figure and sent a snowstorm over the whole thing. Now all I have to do is install a swing from a tree branch and set the figure on it in a natural position. Then I'll have to repaint some of the snow, since it starts to turn yellowish... ! That's probably due to the glue I used to install the snow. It'll look good, though. I'll make pictures tomorrow or Saturday and post them even this weekend.

get in ther soldier !! ..... or just sict back and enjoy the other pleasures of life. It's a hobby, if you don't feel like doing it....then don't. The feeling will get beack, I'm sure.

Only one thing is important about our hobby.....it's supposed to give pleasure. Don't build because you think you must....it will start to frustrate and you're far away from home when it does.

Enjoy it and else........ wait for a better moment....it will come !

everything I`ve done can be seen in the "DISTRACTION" Photo updates

So I`m not going to say very much here.

Here's a short list of what I've got done:
-My base has been shaped and is now covered with gravel (kitty litter)
-I've found the wood that will be used for the interior of the guardhouse (the thin wood is from a container of brie cheese!)
-The main parts of my figure are glued together. (not much progress on paint)
-I've started 'dismanteling' a piece from Tamiya's birck wall set to get individual bricks

Here's a basic price run-down
Figure = $1.75
rifle - .15
base = .20
plaster = .50

Yes, there is supposed to be a window in the dio. The main guidelines are as follows:
-dio must be no bigger than 4x6 inches
-cost must not exceed 30 US dollars
-time period is World War II
-you must incorparate a window into the scene... somehow
-there may be only one human figure present. (I think animals are allowed)
-also, no vehicles.
-completion date is either January 1st or the 10th... I don't remember which...

I think that's the basic guidelines. The original idea was to have requrements for season (winter) and who the character was (a sniper). Those rules were discarded to encourage more people to participate.

Whew.......... I am happy that my looking for the poster makes sense!!!!! I am going round on the base so I believe the diameter was 6".Other than that,I can't post any pictures but want to feel a part of this group so,I'm with you fellows! I really do need a to get another scanner/copier/printer and digital camera!!! I feel as though I am missing out.My 2 year old used the last one for inconvienent storage of a cheese sandwich and soda.Life is challenging with a 2 year old natural disaster.Love him,but he is the reason for the term "disposable income".

The campaign so far .....................
Everything I need is bought for two different dio ideas I have.
Im going to build the two and see which one I like best?
Sketches not drawen/ parts unglued/paints unopened.
Finished for jan 10th? That could be the hard part!!

All my progress can be seen in the post "In the Distance". I have done a little more since the pics in there but I will post more soon.

So far, I have the exterior walls of my building finished. Now I have to build the floors and window frames. I hope to scratchbuild some furniture, but not sure of that yet. My figure is done and he is just waiting on the contractors to finish his house.

Found my base and put my figure together sans head. Found a local supplier of ceramic buildings and ruins. Will eat ice cream to get the wood needed for the window and some scratchbuilt furniture.

I'm sorry to report that I also have the modelling blues and at the moment lack the required motivation to get started.
I have been to the Medical Officer and he has diagnosed me as having acute modelling pleasure syndrome. He told me that I enjoyed doing it and over indulged myself.
Unfortunately the treatment is quite harsh but it is possible to make a full recovery.
Step 1: Spend some quality time with the wife.
Step 2: Spend time with the boy #:-)
Step 3: Focus on work and spend some time on the ranges in the wind and rain.
Step 4: Calculate the cost of christmas (:-)
Step 5: Talk to the in-laws

Hopefully after this one of two things will happen,
You need to escape reality, shut yourself away, have a beer and start modelling or
You are a complete basket case. Put you pants(underwear) on your head, stick a pencil up each nostril an repeatedly say "Wibble" #:-) (sounds like a cunning plan!)

I'm almost finished. My section of the roof the sniper will be perched on is done except for the window framing. The base is finished and the figure is (mostly) glued together, not painted yet.

Basic building structure, junk of scrap panelling from the garage: Free
Figure from a DML set $ 1.75
Balsa, grocery sack, and spackle for building details: $1.00
Piece of chimney from and old Verlinden building $ 2.00

No, the sniper requirement wasn't included in the final rules, so build away...

Okay - on mine, the building is done, the electrical elevator works between the ground floor of the hotel lobby and the hallway on the second floor (hid the motor in a Tamiya drum barrel), the sound system speakers and the smoke generator are in place (both hidden under "rubble and debris".... now i'm just waiting on the phone company to come over and install the phone lines so the phones will actually work. While the entire production fits easily on a 4x6 base, it is almost 16 feet tall, and weighs somewhere in the neighborhood of 830 lbs. (sorry guys... just couldn't resist dreaming out loud a bit!!).

Sorry, Keith, I must have missed a few posts. What's that about electric elevators ? Are you building a hotel lobby or just pulling our leg for a second here ?
I know you can't be judge, jury and participator at the same time, but we'd still be thrilled to see your entry in this "campaign" too !

Could you publish (and update) a list of all who contend ?

Something like :

(name) - (figure type) - (dio elements) - (working title)
GeneralFailure - German sniper - tree, tree hut - Cold Feet


What do you think ?
